Any 20 Ackley Hornet load data out there?

Looking for 20 Ackley hornet load data from any source. Whether you have one or know someone who does. As of right now i plan on modifying 17 Ackley Hornet loads to find starting points, but would prefer tested load data. Thank you.

Don't know if this will help but I have a long-necked .20 Ackley Bee that I'm running 14g IMR 4227 with a 32g V-Max. Good velocity and so far primer pockets are holding. (4 loadings) dedogs. PS This load has worked with fire-forming the brass and is very accurate if the cartridges are indexed. Very time consuming but worth it to me.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the Bee is a bit larger and I dont have any 4227. I have a few loads I found on Saubier.com, but there's just not a whole lot of data out there. Rifle powders I have for testing are RL-7, AA 1680, and H4198. Pistol powders I have are Enforcer, 2400, and Lil Gun. Don't really want to use pistol powders so hopefully one of the rifle powders will work. I do have a lot of slower varmint powders, but they may be too slow for the little 20 Ackley Hornet.

Bullets I have for testing are 34gr Varmint Nightmare, 39gr Sierra BK, and 26gr Barnes Varmint Grenade. Be nice if I could get the 26gr VGs to shoot cuz velocity would be much better. But the most economic bullet is the 34gr Varmint Nightmare since they only cost me $45 per 500. I kind of reserve my more expensive 39gr BKs for larger 20 cals, but will use them if I have to.

Some 20 Ackley Hornet data in attached link.

Yeah I found that thread a while back. Thats about the only info on the internet.

Try goggling data for it. Handloads.com might also have some data. With the 17 AH pressure jumps fast, the 20 should be slower, but pressure always goes up faster in small cases, be carefull.

Ive googled til i wanted to pull my hair out. Nothing on handloads.com

Saubier.com is the only place ive found with data and it was only on the ONE short topic. So at least i have a little bit and all my powders have similar burn rates so ill just use the starting point of the fastest powder for all three rifle powders.

Other than that, supposedly the inventor of the 20 AH, Mr. Kindler, has some data in a 20 cal reloading manual he wrote. But thats about it.

Theres plenty of data for the 17 AH and 22 AH so if i compare the two, the 20 AH charges should fall somewhere pretty close to the middle.

There is an article in Kindlers book on the 20AH. He used the 33gr vmax with A1680, N120, and H4227. H4227 and A1680 got the best speeds. 1680 started at 13.5gr and maxed at 16.2gr, H4227 started at 11.5g and maxed at 14.4.

Just a warning, Todd's loads are on the warm to hot side normally. I haven't shot a 20AH so I can't compare how these are but his 17 data is HOT. Sometimes I wonder how he gets all the powder in the case!

Thank you very much! Was really looking for a safe starting point. That starting point for 1680 is exactly what i was looking for since RL-7 and H4198 are about the same burn rate.

I'm using 14.4 grs. of AA-1680 w/ 32 gr. NSLR hp. at about 3400 fps with good accuracy. Back off the charge when you start your load.

Considering this is a six year old thread ya think it's a good possibility the OP has it figured out by now? Just sayin.

Yeah that rifle is long gone. Lol!
Cool little rifle but didn’t like the crazy thin walls on the Hornet brass. Primer pockets were really weak too. Decided to stick with normal .378” BF cases and larger for varmints
