Didn't ever think I would have been invited to the White House for dinner but he sure had/has my vote again, if and when needed. Most all politicians SUCK BIG TIME!!
And most of the politicians we thought were the "good Guys"? Wait long enough and their true colors start coming into view. :(

You may have missed my point. Please ignore this if I’m mistaken. My point is, mathematically, a strong argument can be made that in the last 50 years the $DJI has increased value a mere 0.4% when measured by the value (buying power) of the 1971 dollar.

That is a staggering truth that fully exposes 50 years worth of dollar devaluation!
 
I have paid off two VA loans in 50 years. I have no intention of paying off the house we bought a year ago since it is on a 30 year loan. People don’t live that long.

If you are a qualified Veteran, the VA cannot deny your loan with minimum down, as long as you can prove that you can afford the payments. My wife wanted to put $300,000 down, I told her I could have fun with that now.

I waited until I was 70 to start drawing my SS. I never needed it, really never thought about it. That was 4 years ago. Since I am not “retired”, I pay 25% income tax on the first 89% of my SS.

My SS check each month is $4350. After they take the taxes out, I get what’s left. But when I do my taxes, I will get some of that back.

I have no interest in building equity in our house. When my wife and I are dead and gone, as far as I am concerned, the bank can have it.

The list of Republicans that you can count on to do the right thing is a WHOLE LOT smaller than the RINO list. A previous post said elections have consequences, if the Republicans hadn't throw two elections, we wouldn't be having these consequences right now.

To understand the root of this problem we need look no further than the nearest mirror. It is not one party that is to blame for this. It is the party currently in power and that power has changed hands many time over the years I have been voting. In those years, the debt load has always been higher when the party in power has lost power. As much as I hate to admit it, I have to accept responsibility because I have voted for both parties in the past. My bad... Time for everyone to accept responsibility. We have listened to words more than we have analyzed results and the result of all of our voting records is what we see before us.

Well, I'm not on board with the above fully. I vote for the candidate that is, in my opinion, going to do the least damage to the traditional values of this Country, whether that is not trying to re-write history, attacking one or more of our bill of rights, condoning violence and vandalism in our cities, allowing precinct captains to cheat on voting day, and on and on. What I do agree with you about is that neither party has the intestinal fortitude to not heap on the debt to buy votes. And that ongoing scenario is one of the worst things they can do to our country. I know its going to happen but I still must vote, but I accept NO blame for their financial mismanagement, just as I would accept blame if I acted the same way financially in my household. Its enough to make a grown man cry!
 
That is why i promote term limits.Don't let them build a base of power amongst their party. Iowa's Chuck Grassley has been there 40 + years and is running again. I think he is 84. What can he do that should have been done 40 years ago ?

I think those who presume that voting for the side that supports the rights we cherish in this forum somehow will do the least damage need to review the spending over the last 30 years. Clearly both sides have learned how to acquire votes via the largess of the treasury. And in taking this a step further, the SCOTUS decisions on Eminent Domain and the Obamacare rulings came from a "conservative" court. In the former, we no longer own our real property. It can be taken away and given to those who promise to top up the government coffers at a higher rate than we are doing. That has resulted in state and local land grabs across the country. In the later, our disposable income (the money left in our pockets after local, state and national governments have taken their cut) is no longer our own. The federal government can now tell us how to spend the money they "allow" us to keep.

Look in the mirror, we all voted for this regardless of which party we voted for. And I voted for Trump the last two times after years of voting libertarian. The libertarians have also sold their soles for votes.

We already have term limits if people would exercise them, they're called elections. Vote the incumbents out, Senators after one term (6years) and Representatives after two terms (4 years). Don't allow them the chance to linger in Washington and develop a power base, VOTE THEM OUT. If they haven't by that time shown signs of doing what they were sent to Washington for, they need to go.

People are not as smart as you and rijndael are they. How much success have you had with your theory ? It just doesn't work that way does it ? I'm 73. I stopped voting in 1990 or 1994. 2008 scared the hell out of me and i signed up again.
 
I'm not completely in favor of strict term limits. It takes at least a couple terms to learn the job. If they aren't doing the job, vote them out. There are a few that are very good and need to stay in. Maybe I should be the person to assign term limits.

Right. That's addressed in the article I posted earlier.

If you only get one term, you'll probably have the previous member's staff, assuming the seat didn't flip parties, so you can hit the ground running. The staff become very powerful in these situations, they're the ones who get stuff done. They're unelected and not subject to the term limits. This effectively creates a power transfer from the elected official to the un-elected staff.

I believe the dollar was created thru the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. Signed into law by Woodrow Wilson.The dollar has been depreciating for more than 100 years. The good thing is we can create more to replace them by the full faith and credit of the U S A .
