How mini. 6br.

Hello all, so I built Howa Mini and just love this rifle. I built it to hunt antelope this year and go on a hog hunt later this month. Its nothing fancy. Howa Mini Action in 6.5 Grendel. I opened up the bolt face, trued the action and rethreaded the receiver to 7/8x20 (because I'm lazy and didn't want to change the gears one my lathe). Had a 1" Lilja barrel blank on hand and it worked perfectly. Bought a Boyds stock. Chambered it in 6BR Laapua and it shot really well. I shot my antelope. Then I realized some of the spent casings wouldn't extract so I checked it out and came to the conclusion my extractor wasn't working properly. I made a new one with a grinder and hours of hand filing. I also tapered the barrel and installed a brake. took it to the range today with a few different loads. The firs load was 26g of 2015 pushing a Berger 105 VLD. I was amazed. Shot awesome. So I came home from the range and celebrated my son in laws birthday and had a few tequilas. lol. Maybe that's why I'm writing this, but I'm just so stoked it shoots as wells it does. Anyway, I just wanted to express my absolute love for this 6 BR cartridge and also how much I Love this little Howa Mini Action. Thanks for lending an ear.

Great setup and DIY build.
Just curious what freebore length reamer you used. Looks as if that 105 is i mean deep in case.
I can measure it and give you a picture or measurement tomorrow. I know that the boat tail was beyond the neck.

Are you using the OEM magazine?..
Will it feed properly?. Reason I ask ,is I have an extra one of them here in 6.5 grendel.
Awaiting to be reborn!

Yes. Feeds great. Only 4 rounds fit. I’ll be doing this build again soon. Probably a 30 br. Mainly because I already own the reamer.

I did a similar build, repurposed a howa mini 6.5 grendel to 6PPC. I used a “not good enough for benchrest” barrel that I had around, re-profiled it and chambered to 6PPC .269 neck. I did not re-thread the action so got to do a metric thread on the barrel. Had to do a little stock work so barrel fit.
Haven’t shot a coyote with it yet but should get out shortly.
At the range it has shot in the mid .1’s with N133 and 68g bt’s using 20x fired “used up” brass.
Great little gun!

Thats awesome. I really love these little actions. I'd like to build one with a carbon fiber barrel next time for a nice little carry deer rifle.
