Gunsmith book recommendations

Looking for good books on gunsmithing. What are some good ones you like or ones you don’t like. I’m fortunate to live close to John Langley here in southern Ohio and have just started going out and working with him and having him teach me. He has built all my rifles over the years and I’ve known him a long time. He mostly does BR rifles and 1911’s which are my same interests as well. He is getting up in years and doesn’t know how much longer he will do it and I’m buying all his equipment once he decides to hang it up and I’m a complete newbie when it comes to machining. Any help is much appreciated

The Complete Illustrated Guide to Precision Rifle Fitting. John Hinant. Lots of technique and tooling ideas.

Centerfire Rifle Accuracy. Wm Hambly-Clark Jr. Don't know if it's available anymore. Lots of info here.

Machine Shop Trade Secrets. Harvey

Metalworking. Lipton

The Jerry Kuhnhausen books are great. The 1911 book is well worth the money. I had them all at one time, and still have a few. Brownells Encyclopedia of Modern Firearms is out of print I believe, but if you can find a copy, it is a very valuable book for older stuff made prior to about 1959 if I recall. The Remington manual
is great if you can find a copy; out of print too I believe. Older Gun Digests are great too.

Best of luck! Joe

Not for BR but a book I have learned a bunch out of (mainly pistols) Gunsmithing by George C Nolte. Following his instructions, in my small world, I made a '70 series (with a straight colt barrel) in other words without the fingers. Legnedaray in my part of the country. Its been a while ago and most are dead now. Anyway the guy tells you how to do a top notch job for little money. If you like pistols (1911s) get it, I really don't think you'll be disappointed. I don't know if there have been any books written in the last few years that are worth buying. The Kuhnhausen books are very good though even if written many years ago. For other guns "you Tube" is your friend.
