270 Winchester with 165 nobler accubond

If you have success with this please post the data. I have a custom .270 that ive been playing with 150gr bullets. Interested to see how a 165 would perform at longer distances.

Assuming a 1:10 twist like on my .270, my rifle shoots anything above 150 grains best with RL19 powder. I would start at 49 grains and work my way up till you hit your node.

Little late to the party but several years ago I loaded Matrix 165 VLD for my 270 Win Rem Sendero 1-10 twist to shoot steel. As I recall I used H1000. They shot fine, moa, until 600 yards but went completely unstable at 1000. They were hitting the steel sideways and you couldn't see a splat. But if you shot off target into the berm you could see the dust kickup.
The Sierra 135 gr MatchKing load shot sub moa to 1000 yards in the same Sendero. So I'd want a faster twist for the 270 Nosler 165 gr Accubond LR bullets.

The 165 grain Nosler's and 170 EOL Bergers, are meant to be shot in, a 1-8 Twist !
I have a .270 WSM, a TIKKA T-3, SS 24" ( now shooting, the 140 AB's ) and IF, I ever shoot, the Barrel out, I'm going to order, a 26" 1-8 TW from, Brux and "suck up",.. the EXTRA Recoil,.. LOL ! Now I practice and shoot Steel with, the SWEET 135 grain Sierra, MK's, a very NICE, Bullet ! I "Nobled up" an Elk with, the 140 noblers !

I have a 1-7.5 Twist 27" 270 barrel for my Origin action that I've only barely started playing with. The 150 LRAB shot very well. I have some 165 LRAB and 170 Berger on hand, but it's been too cold to shoot. I'll likely pick up load development next spring.

How did this end up shooting for you

It wasn't until you bumped this thread that I realized I didn't finish testing the 165's, so I loaded some up and went to the range this morning.

The best 165 group was .683" with 55.5gr of RL26. That should be around 2750 FPS.

All of the 170 Berger's grouped much better with the best being .281" with 55.9 gr RL26. I'm guessing a little slower closer to 2725 FPS.

Pretty good for a 270. That’s what I’m working On now. Can’t decide what twist though.
