Over a long cold Winter I put together a 10/22 position rifle just for fun to see if I could get lucky and get it to shoot, on the cheap. I replaced the stock barrel with a Green Mountain (not exactly a high $$ barrel but low cost was a goal). The trigger had to go, so I figured why not modify it and if I screw it up who cares as I’m going to replace it anyway. It actually turned out “good enough.” In no way in the class of a top end position rifle (Walther, Bleiker, etc) but again, low cost was the goal. The stock was a maple laminate prone style from Richards Microfit bargin bin. I put in a rail for a handstop and an adjustable cheek and butt, then bedded the barrel/action. I scoped it since it was easier than trying to fit iron sights and bloop tube. Below is a fairly typical group at 100 yards prone with a sling (target is a MR31 which is a 600 yard reduced for 100). I forgot the magazine so I had to break position after every shot to single load the 10/22. Wind was slightly left to right. I’d like to see what a benchrest guy could do. I expect my high $$ small bores to shoot like this but didn’t think a 10/22 could, especially on the cheap (under $800 including scope (yeah cheap scope too)). Anyway, shots go on call and it's fun to shoot.
