Berger 105gr Hybrids....bto ?

Just got in an order of Berger 105gr Hybrid bullets......measuring from base to ogive (Hornady comparator) I'm noticing a .015 difference between these and an older lot (8 months) . I understand that different lots are going to be different, but that "seems" excessive....Over reacting , or is that an acceptable range? I know when I switch powders or bullets I need to check load parameters again.....just curious....not benchrest, but shooting out to 550 yds..Thanks for any input...rsbhunter

That's not too unusual from one lot to another; better than many other brands.

Before you consider changing your seating depth, you should try some of these new ones seated at the same depth, where the base of the bullet is at the same depth. This is probably more important than that difference in jump (assuming the difference doesn't get you jammed into the lands).

Great advice.

Awesome ! Figured I was over thinking it...I will try seating at same base of case to ogive, I'm at.020 anyways, so I have wiggle room....thanks for the quick response....I have a bad tendency to try to reach Infinitesimal levels....and I don't have the skill or equipment to do even close to that.....Thanks again, this forum is incredible... rsbhunter

It was only 300....I found them on Bullet Central...one of those, buy some NOW !!! And they were gone......at the prices now I have to save to buy boxes of 500 !!!!! rsbhunter

Because the BTO is .015 difference, what I was suggesting is not the same as seating them with the same CBTO because that'll result in a different depth for the base of the bullet. The base of the bullet should be at the same depth where you're having no change the interior volume of the case for your powder load.

Straightshooter1 , ok, read it correctly, then wrote the total opposite !!! I'll have to shorten my cbto by.015, thereby the base of bullet will be in the same location as the first lot...new bullets were .015 shorter than 1st lot....correct? Thanks for the catch, I was bass akwards !!!! rsbhunter

I ran into this exact problem, between 3 different lots, one was .015 longer, and the third was .023 longer!!, my great shooting, hard to beat 6BR went to shooting OK. Started with a seating depth test, started at -.005 off lands, and what do you know, went exactly back to where it was shooting previously. My previous seating depth was -.015 off, and i used the longer of the other two lots. Basically if all of my backwoods East Texas Math is correct, i put the base of the bullet back almost where it was with previous lot. Gonna have to remember all this!! Oh, and this was all by accident!

Yes, this is why this site is THE go to for info that is good to go. The brain trust here is so willing to jump in and give the right info. I would have kept the same oal and put my groups in the terlet!!! And then I would have blamed the difference in length. Thanks one and all for the effort and time given to keep me on track...rsbhunter

Everything I see indicates this is out of Australia???? Even on Facebook ???? Oh well, I have a stockpile now....rsbhunter

Good news is components seem to be getting a little bit more available....heck , I even found Norma 6mm Dasher brass!!! I have seen primers (CCI450) available a couple times, but the price with all the hazmat and shipping was high...but I think high is the new normal. I've got enough stuff to keep me shooting matches and more for about a year...if it takes longer than that to replenish, well, might have to take up shuffleboard !!!! rsbhunter

Once again we are our own worse enemy. Keep paying the higher price and YOU make it the new normal. I know they no longer teach real American history in many schools so I suppose they would not teach supply and demand. Oh, a dirty word so they banned it, capitalism .

I demand bullets. I will pay a higher price because there is a shortage.

What you're alluding to is price fixing.
