6mm Remington for F-Class Rifle

I'd like to know what your opinions are about the 6mm remington as a suitable f-class rifle. I shot in my 1st f-class match yesterday and now I've got the bug. I've been wondering why more people don't shot 6mm remington at 1000 yards. It has a nice long neck plenty of powder capacity to lauch a 105gr at 3100 fps? Granted it doesn't have the BC's of 6.5 pills.

Comments? Opinions?

Reynolds: When I started F Class three years ago, the 6mm Rem was the rifle/cartridge combo I was looking for after consulting the ballistic charts and past experience with hunting rifles. Only target rifle really available was the Remington VLS but couldn`t find one, chambering now discontinued). So settled on a Savage 12FV in .243 Win. Last year won the Factory F Class Friday Aggregate,300, 500, 900, 1000) at the Ontario Fullbore Champs with the .243. Factory is a special Ontario F Class group designed to get guys out with their groundhog rifles.

Was so impressed with the performance of the 105 AMax and 107 MKing that I opted over the Winter to have MacLennon build me a 30 inch 8 twist barrel in 6AI which uses the 6mm Rem case blown out with a 40 degree shoulder. Gets 3250 fps with the 105/107s and RX22. This moved me up to F,O), much tougher competition than Factory. Placed second in the Friday F,O) Aggregate this year at the Ontario Fullbore Champs. Was in a shootoff for the 1000 yard title but the other guy read the wind better than me and I placed second.

So, based on my experience with the .243 Win and 6AI, I think you have a good idea with a 6mm Rem. You would get longer barrel life with a straight 6mm compared to a 6AI. Unfortunately, Rem has done such a lousy job of marketing the cartridge over the years that there doesn`t seem to be a factory rifle available suitable for F Class. Put a custom barrel on a good action and go for it.

Confused...
Looks like you're the one who dug up the zombie thread....
Ha I think your right, lol. I think a “similar thread” head came up in something else I was looking at. Yea this ones good and dead and I’ll leave it that way, lol

my 6mm rem wont shoot 100 gr pills 95 ok

As long as you're up for this continuation:

What is the twist rate for your barrel?

Originally this cartridge was the .244 Rem and came from the factory with a 1:12" twist rate which Remington felt was good for the varmint weight bullets. Later, Remington changed the name to the 6mm Remington and used a 1:9" twist rate for the heavier hunting style bullets.

Sometimes Zombie threads can be a good contribution due to the addition of new information and new components. Otherwise they can just be a regurgitation of the same old stuff.;)
