Ammo prices

I was mildly encouraged when I saw a case of CCI .22lr standard velocity sell for $505 on GB a couple weeks ago. That's about what CCI sells it for on their website. Part of me wanted to bid but the part that won just wanted to see what it would sell for. I hope it's a sign of things to come but not going to hold my breath.

Locally I'm seeing most hunting ammo has increased 25-50% depending on the flavor. The 30-06 Hornady ammo that was $32-35 a year ago is $45 now. However more of it is starting to sit on the shelves longer, which is a plus.

9mm brass case fmj 21-22$/50 otd around me. Plenty sitting on the shelves. Saw 1000 rd cases for 399, no buyers at that price. I'm putting together a 9mm now(will be my first). The Blaser aluminum case is 18-19 here.

I saw this unfolding and bought a 550. Never considered loading ammonto feed the pistols and ARs. I'm not a mag dumper. Just need enough to train.

The guy had trouble moving it because Noone could get primers so he sold a case with it. Win!!!

I then bought bullets. Lots. Knowing metal prices were northbound.

I'm now happy and will never have to buy ammo again. And loading 9mm with good FMJs for like 10-12 cents a round.

Before this, it just wasn't worth it unless you shoot big volume.

Like always....I just started shooting more. Which isn't a bad thing.

I'm never going to be caught with my pants down again. I need a run at my precision rifle powders and that's it at this point.

10 cents a round. Not too bad. Saw some at a gun store the other day at 18 cents a round. Around here, 14 cents a round unless wally world has some, then 6 cents a round for Fed Auto match

Just saw a Vista flyer circulating dated August 6th. Effective 11/01/21 another price increase. 15% on primers and still not taking new orders. 5% more on promo rifle and pistol ammo. If you (a retailer or distributor) has a back order it sounds like you can cancel or pay the new prices.

Lost track of how many Vista increases there's been. Atleast a couple already.

They blame metal prices last icchecled. Bit last I checked they are still lower than they were a few years back.

I had an economics class back in college and my professor was talking about supply and demand. She was trying to get us to believe that increasing demand CAUSED prices to go up.... and I was arguing with her that is ALLOWED prices to go up. You and me both wanting primer/powder/bullets doesn't cause the price to go up....it allows the vendors to increase their prices. If they raise them too high, then we won't/can't buy anymore...so I'm sure that Vista (and everyone else really) are trying to cover their additional costs (because they do have additional costs), but they are probably also increasing their margins. I think I saw that last year that one of the bullet makers (Hornady maybe) gave an enormous annual bonus - 100% of your salary. It's unlikely that they were able to do that on volume alone - increased margins did that.

But like anything else.....you've got to pay to play. I'm still playing for now.

I wonder how much Burger employees got in profit sharing and bonuses?

Talked to one of the guys at the LGS and he said his cost went up about 40%.
I am guessing that the prices probably will not get back to where they were before the plandemick.
I honestly think they will get back down , maybe not as low as before because the manufacturer has already said their going up a bit and that of course will be passed on to us.... I think all the new gun buyers have backed off on buying simply because the sky isn't falling like before , no riots and covid is not going to kill us all tonight and Unfortunately no zombie attack... Sooner or later alot of people who bought guns and don't like them will be selling them to get rid of them.... I am seeing ammo stay on store shelves because the price has gotten high enough the sorry scalpers can't make money selling on GunBroker anymore....

I shoot more shotgun than anything since the virus hit and shotgun primers are hard to find like anything else but I have been able to keep going... I actually grabbed a thousand this weekend while I was on a mini vacation to San Antonio... That will replace the ones I have fired the past few months and keep me going till winter and it cools down , that's when I shoot the most... I think if we hold on a little longer we might be in good shape...As long as the present administration keeps stepping in it , it will keep them busy also...

Anyone who thinks manufacturers aren't covering any cost increases and THEN SOME, look up their quarterly reports. Some of them makes you wonder how much is enough. It's not just ammo manufacturers. If any of the manufacturers wanted to increase production its possible, but their in the cat birds seat. Sell all they can make, charge what they want, and as long as people keep buying at borderline usery prices its not going to get better.

Prices should stabilize but remember that copper prices have doubled in the last 18 months, other basic materials are way up in general because of the pandemic and the current administration is following a very poor energy policy. Consequently, there is no way you'll see prices back to where they were before the pandemic.
