Forum Boss: This entire thread resulted from a misdiagnosis. Member fatelvis thought his scope turrets were not working right, when in fact the issue was a fault in E-Target caused by cross wiring.

Lesson: if you think you have a scope issue, always double check with a paper target.

Final post: I love this website! I went to the range today and confirmed it was the damned E target and NOT my scope! Thanks to all of you for your input and especially to the guys that suspected the E target. Honestly, I didn’t even consider that in my troubleshooting.
Im so glad I read your responses BEFORE I packed up the scope and sent it off!

Luckily during practice for F-class, I found my zero shifting low and to the left quite a bit on my Vortex Golden Eagle. After firing about 35 rounds, and scratching my head, I realized the turret’s functions have reversed. I literally used the opposite turret to rezero my groups, and I was soon hitting X’s again consistently. Needless to say, it will be going back to vortex, but has anyone heard of this happening before? It seems almost impossible!

At least you kept your cool and figured it out. Your experience brings to mind something that always makes me shake my head. I am amazed at the long time shooters who can not keep straight in their mind the proper direction to turn their scope knobs. I see it or hear about it often. I have multiple GEs, have had no problems. I have a friend who had a problem out of the box with one, Vortex mailed him a new one out the same day he called. He had it in 2 days. That's service. Unlike some others who tell you it's your fault, you used the wrong rings, or you don't know what your doing even though you have been mounting scopes longer that they have been alive. Be sure to post the end result.

Not had any issues with the Razor's I've used. However, I know people who have. I know your not running a Razor, but like mentioned above, Vortex will take care of you quickly. My only experience with their CS was with a pair of Razor bino's I owned a few years ago. I purchased them on the used market and they had been dropped, which bent the front objective ring on one of the tubes. I knew this upon purchase, so it wasn't a surprise when I received them. After looking at the damage, I was worried moisture may get into the optic if used in rain. Called up Vortex, told them what I had and they told me to send them in. Eight days later, I had them back. New ring, lens and freshly purged. I have since switched over to NF optics, but again, my only experience with Vortex CS was extremely positive. I still do, however, use a pair of 15x Vortex Vultures for spotting at our local prone matches. Excellent pair of glass for the money IMO.

Depending on how they handle this situation, I will be following the same course of action.
I know in advance there will be comments on the order that a "good" scope should never need a warranty but how long how long have you owned this one and how many rounds do you think it has on it?
I have many Vortex scopes, a pair of binoculars for hunting and a spotting scope, some going back almost ten years now. The only suspect I had I sent to Vortex for inspection but they just sent me a new (upgraded model) scope replacement.
You will have ZERO issue with them getting satisfied.

I searched those videos, and all refer to explaining how in order to move your point of impact to the right, the actual retinal moves to the left. The same with up and down. To move the group up, the reticle actually moves down.

From the OP’s post, this is not his problem. His problem is that the point of impact suddenly shifted down and over. When he went to adjust, the up and down turret suddenly functioned as left to right, and the left to right functioned as up and down.

This indicates some type of mechanical problem. Knowing what I do about the inward workings of scopes, this seems impossible. The erector tube is generally anchored at one end in some types of ball and socket joint, while the other end is held against the turret abutments by spring tension. You move the windage turret, the spring tension pushes the erector tube in that direction.

The only thing that would cause the rector tube to move up would be if there was something like a small piece of dust or something caught between the up and down abutment and where it contacts the tube, that suddenly became dislodged.

Also, there is a possibility that the ball and socket joint that anchors the erector tube and allows it to pivot might be compromised. But I do not know the design Vortex uses.

I won’t get into how certain conditions can drive bullets in the vertical as well as horizontal.

Same experience here. Dropped a pair of binoculars on a rock at a match, they replaced them. Granddaughter knocked over Spotting Scope on tripod, they replaced it. Buddies 22 wasn't grouping well. I did a scope swap to confirm the scope wasn't hold, it's getting replace as we speak. Great customer service.

I've personally had to argue with Niteforce on a scope that had issues. I dropped another on a Pdog hunt years ago that cost alot to get fixed. Had a couple of Schmidt scopes that I've sent in, great customer service with them. All things mechanical fail eventually, it's how it's handled that makes a difference.
