30BR

What does a reamer for a 30BR .330 no turn neck mean? Just trying to figure out what dies I will need and other equipment as well. I am going down this rabbit hole and I need a light!

A .330 neck diameter will definitely require necks to be turned down to @ .098 for proper expansion room at firing. U will need an expander die and mandrel for neck turning prep. Loaded neck diameter will run @ .3275 to .328 and bumping the shoulders back .002 will allow easy chambering so a good F/L bushing die will be needed. A .324 bushing works well for proper neck tension in my rifle. Some say jam to lands for best accuracy.

EDIT: Some very good info can be obtained here on the site for the 30BR.

If you want to avoid neck turning, build a dummy round with the bullet seated where YOU want it. Use those "loaded neck specs" to have a custom reamer built.
Or, go .330 and turn necks. The choice is up to you.

I built myself a 6.8 SPC. Liked the round and thought, if the 30 BR is such a hot/go to round, why not build a "6.8 BR"? Dummy round built, shipped off to PT&G, had a reamer cut to those specs. Was told it was a "first for them in that caliber". With a little bit of work, it shoots bug hole and no neck turning either.;)

If you DO jam, be ready to have bullets pulled on a loaded round.
All my loads are "into the lands" and I have pulled a loaded round, bullets stuck in the lands and dumped powder into the action. :( I knew it was coming and was ready for it, kinda. Just part of the shooting/loading/learning game. :)
Right I kind of steer away from jam for that reason.

If you don't have the equipment to neck turn brass ,it may be more reasonable to contact DJ at DJ Brass service and have him make the brass. JMO.

I don't use a mandrel on any of my cases/calibers.

I have a Wilson neck bushing die & a bullet seater to use on a K &M .

Then the bushings. one to the size you want. One to each side of it in case you want to experiment with neck tension. 327,328, 329
A case trimmer & shell holder is a good thing to have. I have a Wilson.
A case prep center is good to have.

I use mtm trays & rcbs hand primer.
Hornady one shot,black can.

I got my brass from DJ. So far 20 firing and going strong.

One thing that I've discovered is, my jammed into the lands loads won't show presser signs but that same load with a jump to the lands will. So for me .010 into the lands is my go to OAL. I know where the lands are on each of my barrels and set the OAL accordingly. All loads are mid range so I'am not hammering my brass. Got some BR brass with 20 to 25 re loads and still no problems.

Not picking on you at all but that group can really be tightened up. Here is a picture of target using Ezell tuner.
#1 fouling the barrel
#2 3 shot group
#3 moved tuner 1 mark (wrong direction)
#4 moved tuner back to original position plus 1 mark
Mike said I should have gone 1 more mark and it would have gotten better!!!

I don't have a tuner/brake on my 30BR YET but I will eventually get one on it. I expect my groups will tighten up a bit once it is installed. Honestly, I am happy with it so far though because it will consistently shoot in the ones as is.

I've got and tried other tuners, can't beat the accuracy and ease of Mike Ezells tuners, he takes his time explaining how they work and the pattern you can expect to see as you tune.

You don't need a tuner to make small groups in a 30BR. It just makes it easier to stay in tune if you don't load at the range.

You're much more accomplished than I am and I need that "extra" help! I quit loading at the range before I started loading at the range!
I've never loaded once at the range either Frankie. If I had to do that I'd quit. I bought an old Bat MB from a guy in MD last May who both him and his wife had enough of the score shooting crap. That RC 30BR barrel didn't have a tuner on it and I swore up and down that I would never go to the line without one on a barrel. Well I shot it 3 times last year at matches. First match I got creedmored into 2nd place. Next match I creedmored my 6PPC for 1st and 2nd place and the last shoot in CT on Halloween I came in 2nd. Even if I go to the line without a tuner now I don't feel like I'm at a disadvantage as long as I do my part. I still like tuners I have at least 2 dozen of them and I'll still use them.
