First 284 win problems

I've got my first 284 put together and have been doing load development. The big problem I'm having is with clickers. I'm using 184 hybrids with 53.6 of h4831sc and br-2's with petersons brass out of a 26" barrel with a can. My velocity is only averaging 2696. I can size them down .002 and they fit fine but when I fire them I get a clickers. I'm just having a hard time believing I am overpressured at only 2700. Am I just expecting too much?

Your fl die doesn’t work with your reamer/chamber, the fired case isn’t being sized enough at the base by your die. Norms suggestion of small base die is a good option, there are a couple of others also if that doesn’t help..

It’s a Redding fl/b die that I bought from Alex wheeler, my reamer is just a standard 284 with a longer throat, didn’t think I would have any problems. I guess I’ll try a small base die first.

contact Patriot Valley Arms see if they can get you a Universal Small Base Die.

Another option to cure clicking...ring die.

What are the componets of your rifle? And did you have the rifle chambered with a saami reamer?

Do you have pic of fired case?

Age old problem that comes up frequently. Mismatch between brass, chamber and sizing die.
option 1 chamber to brass clearance to tight. Sizing die won't correct this. You can't size brass smaller than it was when new. Sizing gets it back in the chamber but the brass doesn't have enough room to expand and contract. Solution; polish out the chamber a few thou. Not that hard to do.
option 2 brass to chamber fit is fine but the sizing die does not reduce the diameter enough. Sizing gets it back in the chamber but the brass doesn't have enough room to expand and contract. Brass work hardens at the larger diameter and you have clickers forever even with a new die. Solution; new brass to go along with the new die.

What Norm said,,, small base die.
You’re not over pressure, I have to use a small base die, as do many 284 shooters.
Or a custom made FL resize die to your exact chamber dimensions from places like Neil Jones or Jim Carstensen. Send them twice fired cases. Your reamer prolly could stand to be .001" bigger about .200" in front of the case head.
