Savage A17 17HMR

Was wondering if anyone has bought a Savage A17 in 17HMR? If so, how is the accuracy? Would be a nice simple semi auto for those short range prairie poodles!

Big fan of mine so far.. Haven't done much careful bench shooting with it, but plan on it this weekend. the stock is my only complaint, very cheap feeling. And will probably have it dura-coated soon.. not a huge fan of the shine. Boyds has a stock for it out now, so that is in the future also. Have only shot the A17 ammo out of it, so far so good.

We have one that will only fire one rd at a time. Each time you fire,, you have to push safety on and then back off, to fire next round. Will yours fire semi auto? Thanks for any help

I bought Savage's A17 Target Sporter Laminate right after they came out with them. I've been pretty impressed with the accuracy. It will actually shoot better groups at 100yds than my Sav. SS HB model 93 17 HMR bolt gun.

My only real bitch about mine was the trigger out of the box was beyond bad in fact it was terrible but after a couple hours of messaging I was able to get the trigger down to right at 2lbs with just a tiny hint of creep/pretravel.

For anyone with a Savage A17 and wants to take it ground squirrel or PD shooting I recommend the Butler Creek magazines. They hang down a little lower than I'd like but they're 25 rnds of fun and much easier to load than the factory mags.

I have shot alot of 17 HMR in a Savage 93r17. The CCI TNT ammo has been the most consistent accuracey wise by a long way. The vmax ammo has wild fliers and the A17 ammo is especially bad. No experience with the rifle itself. The CCI gamepoint and FMJ are also both a little better imo than the Vmax offerings. No complaints with the TNT bullets effectiveness on small game. very devastating.

Every gun is different. My Savage will not, nor those of my buddies, shoot anything that has a CCI label on it. Hornady all the way in ours - whether leaded or non-lead.

You probably already know this but that Hornady labeled stuff is made by CCI.

In fact, I think everything except Winchester and Browning labeled 17 HMR ammo is made by CCI.

Not the same load and not the same bullet. The Winchester shoots good in our rifles as well.
