Needed Anschutz trigger help

I have a friend with a mod 54 that is around 1964-1969 year model that he shoots 50yd BR with aperture sights. He has a new Stiller rifle that kicks our butts in the scope class, but he uses the Anschutz in the iron sight class.
Can anybody adjust the trigger to 1.5oz or will he have to buy another rifle to achieve this?

Anschutz match 54 target rifles from that era are likely to have one of two or three triggers, the 1407-U9 two stage, the 1411-U2 single stage three pound trigger, or the 5039 set trigger. The latter can be adjusted to go quite low, but neither of the other two triggers will be able to go as light.

The 1407-U9 has a factory low of about five ounces, although some users say it can go lower. The 1411-U2 trigger can go to a low of about 16 ounces. The set trigger can go down to well under one ounce.

Below are the basic configurations and some adjusting instructions.

It's possible to use a 5071 or 5075 trigger that was produced beginning in the mi-1970s, but neither is likely to be adjustable to below two ounces. Even the current 5018 trigger goes down that low.

Might check in over at RFC, Hi-NV Shooter is pretty knowledgeable about Annie's. I think I've seen him on here too, but not sure.

What photos are you not seeing?
I click on the attached photo expecting to see it at your hosting site but get only a prompt to buy a membership to Photobucket. I can read the embedded material but hoped to see it in a larger format at your host site. I'll live through this traumatic experience I suppose....

Butch,
Which trigger does he have? is it a two-stage or single stage here is an example of the 1407-U9 2-stage I am talking about- the one pictured is set to about 2-oz. you can go maybe as low as 1.8-1.9 oz. but you may have problems with the bolt staying cocked.
the 5039 set trigger can be set in the set mode to 1/6-oz. or just under 5-grams. not a great setup for BR as you have to push forward on the set lever and if you don't pull your finger straight out from the trigger guard you can trip the trigger, I learned this and cost me a match.
the best trigger to get is a 5071 or 5071-1 this is Anscutz's best trigger for the older match 54, unfortunately they are hard to come by and sell around $550+

Lee, I told Herb to check this forum and read your suggestions. He is checking on a Kenyon 2oz that I found. He is going in for Afib surgery tomorrow and will check it out further Thursday or Friday. I asked him to join our forum.

Thanks for your photo and info.

Mark Penrod said the Kenyon is a great trigger and worth what the guy is asking. It will probably be a couple days before I know anything further.
You guys are great!

Butch,

I have never had the opportunity to own or shoot a Kenyon, but have heard they are hand crafted works of art.

Herb called me from the recovery room and said he bought the Kenyon. One of my customers suggested a fellow to alter his existing trigger to 2 oz. I called him and he said he did them for $80+shipping. Herb will do that also to have options.
Oh, my Walther BR stock is ready for a finish. I'll have it dipped and clear coated. Was going to have Kenny Youngblood paint it, but this is supposed to be a relatively inexpensive rifle.

Butch,

Good to hear your friend Herb is doing well after his procedure. I also have to assume that the guy who does the $80.00 trigger work is Todd T. in Cal. if so Herb will not be disappointed in the work.

Yes sir, one and the same. His wife took the trigger to the post office just a few minutes ago. Herb's was day surgery and he can still play with minor gunsmithing.
Todd T was very personable over the phone.
