Best chassis/stock for Tikka T3x for precision/hunting

Just want some options for a chassis/stock for precision shooting primarily, but would also be used for hunting so it has to be somewhat light weight. Any ideas? Also has to be under $1000. Cheaper the better to an extent...

GRS from Norway. I think that Legacy (howa)may be the distibutor. I have a Tikka in a Bifrost, which in a solid laminate. There's another called "Beserk" which is lighter and a whole range of laminate woods. Really good and adjustable. Scandinavian rifle in a Scandinavian stock.

I bought a used Tikka with a GRS stock. It’s a nice stock and has a good feel to it. The design is like the stocks I make and I wanted to get my hands on one to analyze it and see if I should incorporate some attributes into my redesign of the Tikka Master Sporter stock.
The GRS had only one thing I didn’t like. The butt has a hook carved out of the bottom that makes it difficult to set up on a rear bag. I eventually made one of my stocks for the gun and the GRS leans in a corner. They may make a different model. Take a look.

Compromise is difficult when trying to combine the concepts of Precision Shooting and hunting. Most chassis and stock designs are a culmination of experience and research into a design specific to that endeavor. Yes, there are crossovers and some are available for under $1,000. But...

Do you do most of your hunting in the St. Cloud, MN. area?

If your answer is yes, I suggest that you try to not get too excited about an all aluminum chassis. I have used them and will continue to use them but in colder weather, they conduct the cold far faster than anything in wood or composite. There are hybrids of this as well where areas of wood or composite material are placed at the hand contact points.

On the cheap end you have the Bell and Carlson stocks along with HS Precision and although there is a price difference between them, the concept is the same. There are also offerings which spring from suppliers such as Stocky's who provide similar ideas.

The extreme of this idea comes from Tom Manners with his chassis design in composite or carbon fiber stocks. These are rarely under $1,000 unless you happen on a bargain somewhere. They are not light. One of my favorites is a folder with the chassis but most will rebel against the weight of the stock alone.

Any one of a dozen or more manufacturers of plywood stocks will work if you find a design which suits you for 'precision' shooting and hunting. There is a range of inexpensive (Boyd's) to some of the custom manufacturers which will run way north of that $1,000 limit.

I do like the feel and handling of the GRS stocks and yes there is that void in most of the buttstocks. The Hybrid model can work and the X-Eater model has a Picatinny rail on the butt for a sled or monopod. The injection molded Berserk doesn't conduct cold as rapidly as the aluminum chassis. I did find that the mold lines had to be subdued slightly which should be unnecessary.

My suggestion would be to attend one of the major manufacturers shows such as SHOT Show or one of the NRA shows in order to get a personal feel for each stock that might suit you. Your post though seems to indicate a faster need.

Enjoy the process!:)

My recommendation would be a Macmillan Game Hunter or Game Stalker. I have a Game Hunter on my T3 in 7-08AI. I use that gun for long range shooting and hunting. It works very well.
The problem with most chassis systems is the weight. Even the aluminum ones are heavy for a hunting rig.

Probably not the answer you're seeking but I offer my experience with the Tikka T3X.

I have 5 Tikka T3's. All shoot fantastic, especially the heavy varmint model, T3X with the factory stock which come standard with their vertical pistol grip.

I have two other T3X's with sporter weight barrels. I replaced the standard pistol grip with the Tikka after market vertical grip and it made a huge performance difference in my ability to shoot better since it better aligns the trigger finger position. I think it was about $10 each.

Unfortunately, my two, T3's do not have a modular stock design so I can't replace the pistol grip.

You may want to give it a try for you T3X. It made a big difference for me. Also, I found their factory stocks to be quite good relative to stiffness and fit.

KRG Bravo is also quite popular, but usually you see Tikka with Berserk stock(if stock has been changed)

i filled factory stock with liquid foam to remove that awful sound from it for my hunting Tikka.
boyds stocks used for other 2 varmints Tikkas, cheap way of replacing factory stocks

KRG (Kinetic Research Group) makes a few different models for the Tikka T3X rifles. I just picked up one for my Remington 700 and really like it. I got thr Bravo model and I know it will fit the Tikka too.
I'm another plus for KRG. The Bravo and the Xray are about as light as you get for a full ally block and skeleton. My Xray is the GOTO for hunting.

I also run a couple of Tikkas with MDT chassis which I like, but as mentioned they do get cold and they are a little heavy for a mountain gun. I think MDT have or are about to come out with the HNT26, a carbon fiber and magnesium hunting chassis but I'm not sure of its price yet.

I have a Tikka T3 with a walnut stock. No rattle, stable, looks good, performs good. I put up with fiberglass or carbon fiber stocks on my benchrest rifles, and prefer the look and feel of real wood on my hunting rifle. JMPO.

I’m currently looking for a Tikka Stock too. I have a few Tikkas and don’t change out the stocks normally but I just bought a wood stocked Tikka in 6.5x55 that has a badly warped barrel channel, it’s fixable but it’s a good excuse to buy a better stock. I was disappointed with Manners, disappointed in the fact they don’t offer more Tikka options, I’ll Probably go that route though. I would consider McMillan but I’m gonna hold off until the new owners prove theirselves a bit, hearing a few bad reviews. The bezerker got my attention but I’m shy of the Tupperware look, not really a fair statement without actually touching one but that’s the impression just looking online, or my impression anyways. Let us know what you pick, lots of good feedback coming in.
