Case trimmers

Looking for info on case trimmers. Particularly the RCBS trim pro 2 or something similar. Is there any trimmers that are dual purpose for flash hole deburring/pocket uniforming. Or possibly able to mount a dial indicator to measure concentricity. Any info would be appreciated

I have the RCBS Trim Pro , been using it for 30 years , tried the dual trim and chamfer cutter, rather do in separate steps. You sound like your looking for a time saver but also accuracy. There are other trimmers that the lock up system is better then the RCBS . I trim after every firing , it's more like I cleanup then a trim for me. I'm not shooting volume , so I try to make every case as exact as possible. Everything is done in separate steps , uniforming primer pockets , flash hole , trim and chamfer. Full sizing with .002 case headspace. Hope I helped in some way.

Thanks that helped a bunch. Im kind of in the same boat as far as not shooting volume, but want to be as precise as i can. One thing im struggling to figure out is measuring headspace, and setting FL dies to bump the shoulders on fired brass. Haha seems like i start to grasp something, and it leads to 10 more questions

RE: setting up FL dies, look up Erik Cortina method of setting up dies. Quick, fool proof, and can be done using only two cases.

In the begging I tried neck sizing , bushing dies , you name it I tried it what worked best for me was the first RCBS full length die , Redding Competition shellholders , it's a set of 5 with different deck heights , lower then standard by .002 each , allows you full contact from base of die to shellholder , the RCBS Precision Mic , accurate for finding you headspace datum line and ogive setting , and last the Redding Competition Seating Die. Headspace setting , check your fired case length , after sizing your case may lengthen not only from stretching but from expanding also. Some back off the die and lower until you reach your desired length ,I like full contact . Try sizing to the fired case length and see how it chambers . Fired cases have spring back , they may chamber fine in your chamber , you don't want to oversize . As time goes on that case will form better to your chamber and setting your .002 case headspace will form easier. Just take your time. Hope I helped .

Like the idea of the redding competition shell holders. That alone solves a lot of my concerns. Ill probably try to find a couple sets tonight. Thanks for your input!

I use Wilson because of:
  • precision coaxially oriented length trimming
  • precision coaxially oriented VLD inside neck chamfering
  • precision coaxially oriented meplat trimming
  • Effective inside neck reaming when making wildcat cased from longer parents.

Lyman electric Xpress is fast, precise, and around $150. A full set of bushings to accommodate a wide range of cartridges is included.

I've been using the Trim-Pro ll for several years now , with excellent results . I added the 3-way cutter head to speed up the prep process , as I shoot TR , and go thru a lot of brass weekly . I can tell you that when it is set correctly , it will hold a +/- of .001 , and does it with consistency . I can run through 80 - 100 cases per hour , or more . So what's not to like about the Trim-Pro ll ? The only time I trim is when I see a percentage of cases from a "group" growing towards my high-end dimension , and then I run the whole group after annealing , but I do anneal after every firing .
