Afternoon at the sawmill

I recall seeing a film some time back, before all of the reality garbage, a gent in the Great Lakes was going down in a submarine or a sphere and bringing up some big ones that will never be again.
I think they were referred to as American Elm.

Red Elm is also called slippery elm. Different species than American Elm. Getting to be rare because of the Dutch elm disease

a way to tell the difference is to pull off the corky bark. American elm has layers of light and dark colored bark. Red elm is solid dark. Also, not sure why I quoted you. Lol

Once it is dry, could you cut it into say 3 0r 4 thinner sheets, reverse them and laminate it. I'll bet that would make an interesting looking stock and very strong. It might require special equipment to do the cuts and the glueing.
