I have my readers around my neck always. I find bright lights are also.necessary. been thinking about putting one of those jewelers magnifiers on my reloading bench.
I use reading glasses for regular looking, but for up close stuff I use the reading glasses and these. Makes a big difference.Ok this is a weird question for me to ask but Ive reached the age I’ve started having to wear reading glasses and I’m finding myself struggling to read the had stamps on some of the smaller brass and tinkering with small objects. I know I can’t be the only blind guy reloadingso what is the solution you guys have found for this problem. I’ve thought about some type of jeweler magnifying head set but I’m not sold on the idea yet so I thought I’d ask for your solutions. So what are you u

I never even thought to close one eye and see if the readers worked the same, you nailed my problem on the head. My right eye is clear as a bell with the reading glasses I have but the left is blurry. I was going to the eye doctor anyway but its nice knowing I actually have an issue that can hopefully be solved with the right glasses. I can read the head stamps perfectly with just my right eye but the left eyes jacking things all up. I can see anything a few feet away fine so maybe I’m not ready for the nursing home yetMost are assuming both eyes require the same prescription. Few do. My left eye requires a far more powerful prescription value (for both distance and close) than my right eye. Using the single prescription generic glasses usually induces eye-strain on the eye that the prescription doesn't fit and results in headaches. Besides, once vision starts to degrade it only continues to get worse. And just passing a driver's license vision test once every four years or so doesn't cut it. Those are so generic that the little old ladies we all see peering with squinted eyes over the steering wheel can pass them.
Without the services of a good optometrist, how sure are you that your overall vision is good enough for iron sight or even scope use? Are you developing cataracts? Maybe that's why crosshairs never seem to be sharp and clear and open sights are nearly invisible? All of our shooting pursuits require good vision, even if it needs to be corrected. Maybe invest in a trip to the optometrist and forget that fifth 'wonder' case trimmer that will join the others in a drawer somewhere never to be seen again.
Don't automatically dismiss bifocals. I've worn "line-less" bifocals for 35 years now. I've never had a problem as long as the "close" prescription is ground low enough on the lenses to accommodate your natural head position. Mine are located quite low on the lens because I tend to hold my head back a little and "normal" locations allow the more powerful part to impede my distance vision. A good optometrist takes all that into account when taking measurements. Mine have no visible lines, but many prefer the "lined" style. I hate wearing glasses, but I would hate even more having to keep track of two pairs all the time!I never even thought to close one eye and see if the readers worked the same, you nailed my problem on the head. Whoever that was that said the word bifocals needs to shut their pie hole, no way I’m wearing those lol.

Obviously I was joking but I appreciate your concern for my love life however I’ll stick to the beautiful doctor I’m married to thank you very muchThat was me. I don't even know you, but you can rest assured that the hot nurse at the doctors office isn't interested glasses or not. Same thing with the cute donut gal down the street.![]()
Like you I also have one of these magnifiers that is LED lit. I also wear bifocals but use the magnifier quite a bit when I inspect brass before reloading. Amazon also has them pretty cheap as well. Well woth the money for these 'ole eyes.If you only need the magnification occasionally, you can usually find these things pretty cheap.

I've had the magnetic readers for 15 years or so and still have a pair in the truck, they are great to a point but if you go to the eye doc you may find the answer you haven't been wanting!! ;-)At 58 I use a 1.25 reader and at the loading bench I have a Magnifier Head Strap With Lights from Harbor freight when I need extra magnification, and if you still can't read it with one of those, get a white cane.
As far as regular readers go, everyone should check out the Clic magnetic glasses, they solved the problem of having glasses everywhere for me.
Only those that don't wear glasses!!Most are assuming both eyes require the same prescription
Looking for specific recommendations on items like this. what products does group know/use that you really like???I use reading glasses for regular looking, but for up close stuff I use the reading glasses and these. Makes a big difference.
