I'm working on converting a horrible RFBR stock to accept a R700 for my f/class gun. Inlet is 99% done, barrel channel and recoil lug done, now I'm in the process of shaping the tang/wrist area.

If I could see some pics of different BR style stocks, specifically of the top of the wrist area from a couple angles it will help me get this shaped attractively. I already have pics of a baby tracker from a buddy, so thats covered.

¡Muchas gracias!

I'm not sure which part you mean, but here's a Master Class stock I modified. I didn't like the "trough" or whatever it's called in the back by the tang area, so I basically removed it and matched the tang angle somewhat at the rear:

Make sure you don't end up with a 'ledge' behind the tang. The area behind the tang should in fact be a bit lower than the tang inself on a well done 700-style stock. If the tang has to fit low, make sure it has adequate room behind it.

Good shootin'. -Al

Loading port is just about done, working on the bolt slot now. Next I need to figure out what to do with the bumpy terrible relief cuts on the left side that look like was for a bolt stop. I may just make a long step clearance cut like for match sights. Thoughts?20210418_152727.jpg20210418_152752.jpg

I'm not a great wood worker. But on a couple occasions, I've taken the wood dust from the stock being worked on, mixed it into clear epoxy and filled areas with that. Not perfect but acceptable. -Al

It's hard to tell from the pic but it doesn't look like the wood on the left side of the stock is as high as the right side. (or as high as it should be) Have you done the inlet to the proper depth, or maybe the action is indexed to the right?

Cutting a shelf and adding a piece of wood is one option, but with the light colored stock the glue line will be obvious. However, if you were contemplating painting the stock, it wouldn't be seen.

This stock was assymetrical in almost all directions when I got it, made by Bubba in his garage. Its been lowered on the left and those cut outs made with what looks like a dremel. The fore end was 3/8" wider on one side and tapered to the front, lol!

I was thinking of just cutting it and leaving a little shelf, like a 40x stock. Inlet was done on a mill, but in the pic I do not have action bolts or pillars in yet, so it can twist a little.

I realize this stock will never measure up like a properly made stock, but just trying to make it LOOK like it was done right is the goal. All my measurements were taken from a centerline based on action screws, so hoping to keep everything square to that.

Do all the filling you need to then send it to @Bc'z to put some paint accents on those areas. I bet he has some pics of one he has done
We talked on the phone Saturday.
He has dye I sent him a year ago, I'll walk him through it.
I offered to prime stock for him, provided he brings a box of Churches chicken.
We can run over to range while primer is drying for a few hours.
