6.5x47 lapua

What powders are y'all getting good results with in this caliber? I'm down to 1 pound of h4350 and I'm having a hard time getting some more. I'll be shooting 136 gr lapua scenar-l.

My powder varies by make of bullet. I use both Varget and RL 15 with such success and have never bothered to try anything else (at least yet). I have 2 different 22" barrels set up as hunting rigs. Between the two, I have 5 or 6 load combinations that deliver sub 1\4" five shot groups with 4 different bullets in the 120 to 130 grain weight range. Boy howdy do I like 6.5 x 47. Can't wait to move to the Texas Hill Country, get settled in, and get back to shooting (finally got both shots behind me).

Try, the StaBall 65 as I think that, IT will, surprise you !
The "Burn Rate", is slightly slower than, 4350 and Hogdon reloading, "should" have Data.
I use it with, my 100 gr Sierra SPBT, Hunting loads in .243 Win and with, 95 and 108 grain, Target / Varmint loads in my New, Rem 700, Criterion barreled, 6 XC.
The 108 Berger, Elite Hunters, are "Clover leafing" in the 3's with it and I'm NOT finished "Tuning", yet !
Extra "Bonus",.. StaBall, Meter's, plus / minus, ONE Tenth of, a grain !

Was going to try the staball but everything I'd read on people trying it in a 6.5x47 was bad so I wasn't very optimistic.

StaBall 65 ( thus the 65 in the Name ) was designed by Olin ( Winchester's ) Engineers/ Chemists for, the 6.5 Creedmoor round, which is, very close in, case size / Volume to the 6.5 x 47 L ( IIRC ). I DON'T own either of those two rounds, but we shoot it in 3 Cartridge's in my Family,.. .243 Win, 6XC, ( 95 to 108's ) and in 7mm-08 ( with, 150 to168 grain, bullets ). GOOD accuracy and very near, Tip TOP,.. Velocities are, NO, problem !
OR, .. just send it to me and I'll happily, dispose of it,.. PROPERLY for, you ( LOL ! )

StaBall, shoots as good as, ANY Gun Powder that,.. I've ever shot !
H-4350 might do, a "little" better, but very few places,.. HAVE,. any !
Do, a Ladder Test for, the amount of Powder / Velocity,.. THEN,.. "Tune" for, Bullet Depth.
StaBall, HAS the "correct" Burn rate for, your Cart. W/ 130 to 147 grain Bullets Good Luck !
CCI or, Win Primers, work great.

Have you tried to buy any VV,. N-150 or, N160 ?
Sometimes IT can be had from, a WELL stocked, GS
Since fairly expensive, not everyone, shoots it !
You won't know for sure that, the StaBall, won't work, in your Rifle, Til' you try, tho

I had hopes for 6.5stabal in a 47L improved because it would have solved the compressed charge problems of h4350
A 2 shot ladder at 600 shot a fair amount bigger than h4350

Sorry to hear that !
Sounds like, 3-4 guys have had "Trouble", in the 6.5 x 47 L with StaBall

None of my lgs has any Powder and I haven't noticed it in stock anywhere online. To be fair I wasn't really looking for those particular powders

I’ve had excellent luck with Varget. I tried H4350 and it did good but the stars aligned with Varget for me. Shooting 140 grain Berger HVLDs. 37.5 grains with a CCI 400. I actually tried that load because it’s listed on the cartridge guide you can find here. Only down side is it’s Varget, but you do have 2 pounds of it.

That being said the 6.5 x47 would be a fun one to experiment with, CFE223 has been an eye opener for a lot of my smaller and mid sized cartridges.

A quick search brought these threads up For your browsing time.

We have 5 different Loads, worked up, in 3 Rifles, that shoot,.. "good" !
IF you have, a $3,000+ Target rifle, shooting Bench Rest at,.. 600- 1,000 yards,..
StaBall, might not be, the "perfect Match" Powder for, your Rifle !
UNTIL, H-4350 / Varget, "Pixie Dust" becomes available, again,.. the StaBall, WILL go,.. Bang !
