20 GT Anyone?

Took my Blaine Eddy neck reducing plate and spun a 6 GT down, and seated a 55 Berger man it looks cool kinda like a baby 6-284. ~1 gr less capacity than the occasionally built 20-250 that those who build them love, thought it might be interesting to get some thoughts on it.

I'm probably not your target audience here as I tend to the slower, smaller side of things (I've got a 20 Vartarg that I shoot the 55 Bergers with at 3200fps) and I also shoot almost exclusively targets, so the GT seems a bit beyond what I would consider acceptable for barrel life. Probably be a pretty sweet predator gun though.

Do you have a target velocity that you think it'll hit? I'm not entirely familiar with how fast the 20-250 will go with a 55: 4000fps sound about right?

At sane pressures the 55 Berger will go right around 3800 from a 24” barreled 20-250

Id guess this case to do about the same or a tad better even with less capacity.

Agreed. That looks like a 3750-3800 FPS cartridge. Plug the numbers into your favorite ballistics spreadsheet and prepare to be impressed. Hotrod 20 cal cartridges perform amazingly while keeping muzzle flip in check.

Guys don't get me wrong here--I just made one up cause I think it's COOL (and I wanted to be the first to make the cartridge...probably), and I thought it'd make for an interesting discussion here. As a dyed in the wool coyote hunter it passed through my mind more than once. I'm not building one...yet. I've also just retired so I don't know how many more builds I have left in me (or my wallet).

I took the 6XC many years ago and necked it down to 20cal and shoot the 55grain pills at over 4000 fps, but the best accuracy node was at 3850 fps. out of a 24" barrel. It is a coyote killing machine. point and shoot out to 500 yards. I have about 12 different reamers for 20 cals. and probably the most efficient is my 204. I built it with a 19" barrel plus a suppressor and it throws the 55grainers at 3350 fps. with unreal accuracy. But 20 cal is my favorite coyote pills.

I was thinking about it as an alternative to a 20BRA to eliminate any feeding issues. I haven't worked out all the kinks feeding 20BRA out of an AW mag with a Curtis Vector.

Troy whatś the H2O capacity of those br variants. Interesting to see compared to this case. 55 Berger just couple thou deeper than NS junction which is about 2.264 OAL for AR mag.
