Got around to shooting my 30BR again today. This thing never quits. Definitely my best 5 shot group from this rifle and probably one of the best of a lifetime. Tried some 112 Barts again. Loaded 34.7 gr. of H-4198 with a 205M primer and backed off from a .324 to a .325 bushing @ .010 off the lands. Zack (WSMNUT) sure knows how to build a shooter.

EDIT: My loaded round neck dia. measures .3275

I’ve always said the .30 BR is accurate but it’s hell to shoot it for two days.

Don't seem to bother me but when u feel the recoil of a Rem 300 RUM in a regular light-weight sporter stock then the "love tap" of most anything else is minor. LOL. Right I don't own it now.

I mean everyone has a threshold as far as recoil goes but when I hear people say that a 30BR has a lot of recoil, I cock my head like a dog when you ask your dog a question. I guess it's because I've never been recoil sensitive at all so it sounds foreign to me when somebody says that about a 30BR. All my rifles that I shoot in competition I shoot free recoil and I never use a 30br at 2 and 300 yards and meters. I want something with more HP. I got the rifle for this cartridge on the left when I was 17 years old in 1975 and had it until about 2011. I shot the thing constantly. the 2nd cartridge is a 30BR. Next to that is the 30 Thrasher which was Smokin Joe's pet project that he sold me. Then the 30BRX and lastly my 30 Jaguar 2 which is a few MM's shy of a 308. To me none of them kick except the 460. I even made the mistake of shooting it off a bench. ONCE.

Jim, I've seen some of the measurements of the recoil of the 460 Weatherby
it's one of if not the highest recoiling cartridge out there.

As you know, you have to stay on target or get back fast.On my tiny group at Dublin, there was a bit of a delay as I looked for my second shot. I couldn’t find it anywhere so I fired the third. Another delay and then two quickies as I decided they must all be in one hole. Dave Apple and Ed Davis were scoping and Dave Apple said all five gold lines went into the one hole as I was shooting and he was watching.
Smokin’ Joe, I think we are both about the same old age.

I hear ya about running as fast as you can. I've never shot a group match only score. I am not a picker, but a runner. That's my biggest problem that when I see the same condition come around it pedal to the metal and then sometimes I forget to hit the binders and the chutes and I get caught. I'm always one of the first ones finished in our 10 minute matches. I tried slowing down a few times and I did pretty good, but I need to slow down more because I know that I can be a better shooter if I just learn to slow the FK down.

Back when I use to live in Mass, I was at the range practically everyday. There was a guy there that let me shoot his 577 Tyrannosaurs and I expected more recoil that my 460 but he had a 13 pound rifle with ball bearing and a mercury reducer system and it was actually easier to shoot than the 460. Back in the 60's and early 70's I use to get those Weatherby Catalogs with all the pictures of who shot what with each caliber. I saw a picture of a 15 year old girl with a 460 in her hand with a bull elephant beside her that she shot. That's when the ego kicked in and I said that if she can shoot one so can I. I mean I know it's different when your confronting a charging elephant or cape buffalo and you have to fire or get killed. I've read that you don't even notice the recoil in that situation. I've never had that happen to me. The only dangerous game that I've ever encountered is when I was rounding the corner in the Little Debbie isle at Walmart about 15 miles from my house and I encountered a 500lb Maine farm girl on a scooter. I'd rather face a Cape Buff or an Elephant. I guess you can compare the 577 to the 460 like you can compare it to shooting a 500 S&W vs a 460 S&W. To me the 500 is so much more manageable than the 460. The 460 just snaps back at you. the 500 just lobs back at you in a more manageable way.
