Background Checks Act 2021 goes to Senate

NRA has warned of this chain of events for a long time now if gun owners have been listening -- universal background checks leading to registration and registration leading to confiscation (the only purpose registration has ever been used for). They have NOT neglected their duty here, but knowledgeable gun owners need to help educate their friends and acquaintances in the general public -- who know little of the plans of the left and how such legislation has been used at the state level and in other countries to deprive lawful citizens of their firearms.
So tell me how , when the vast majority of people in the metro areas think of guns only as "murdering things" how does educating our friends change anything? We have a list of "friends" that is going down the toilet.

The NRA probably did what they could. Save your money.

It was inevitable, demographics are dead set against us.

So even my dad who is a collector at 85 years old is a criminal in America's eyes...

Lots of lost hope in this thread. Sure things are going south fast. I’m more concerned about the 2022 elections and some way to ensure the results are honest. We can get the senate flipped and the house, we can reverse much of this crap If we can have a honest election. So much corruption in government, on both sides. I still hope agaisnt the odds I guess. One thing is for certain, conservatives, independents, constitutionalists are too passive, we have been for too long time.

We all know honest elections going forward are a joke. Yes, there is corruption on both sides. We only need to be concerned with corruption on the left. You are dead right about being too passive.

Let's all envision bench rest shooters are all killers. Semi auto anything is a cop killer. We are evil. This is where we are. I don't know how we fix this. Well maybe we succeed but thats not happening.

They won’t need to, they’ll put a few thousand in jail and the rest will fall in line.

No one will go to jail. They will announce whatever new regulation and the gun owners will fall all over themselves to comply so as to "not get in trouble" same as always.

Not only that, if history serves, the dealers will be the most enthusiast self regulators of fellow gun owners. To make sure we all follow the law correctly so "we dont get in trouble" from the ATF.

I will not comply when are we going to stand up and do some thing what is not to understand about shall not be infringed dammit!!!!!!!

When the safe act was passed in NY there was only 2-3% compliance and nothing happened, no one went to jail and only two guys that I know of were arrested for having more than 7 rounds in a magazine and they were proven innocent when the capacity law was thrown out by a higher court and they filed law suits against the city and won a 2 million dollar court settlement.

Why do you believe the gov wants us to be unarmed ?

I've got mixed feelings about this bill. I was a legitimate dealer for years but I saw "others" setting up tables at the local flea market and dealing out of their trunks at gun shows. Nearly all of these sellers were pushing guns to people who can not buy guns through legal channels. In other words a black market right in our face. Complaints to the BATF did no good since they had no means to stop the dealers from selling their "own personal collection" (guns they just bought somewhere yesterday) to an individual that couldn't buy a legal firearm. You can yell at your senator or representative or chat back and forth but the fact is we let it happen right under our noses and did nothing about it. The black market for illegal gun sales is taking away your right to sell your pistol to your son or neighbor and we did nothing to stop it.

We already have laws against that we do not need more laws we need the ones that are on the books enforced and many other laws repealed

As far as freinds, a few hunters I know have their head in the sand when it comes to gun rights, voting for biden because of this or that issue amd then denying that biden is anti gun. It blows my mind, and it would not have taken a large number of votes to flip one less senate seat.
The demagogic of gun owners are changing in out favor quickly, women and black people are becoming gunnowners recently, which is good news.

I have talked to people in Washington, and believe it or not calling them and voicing your opinions on a bill does in fact sway them. Its worth the 5 minutes to pick up the phone. I recommend everyone should save their Senators and Reps office numbers in your phones, any time your bored and taking a drive, just call them up and voice your support for freedom even if there is no looming bill.

If you or the ATF had any proof that it would have been shut down years ago. You just called half the people on this forum criminals. What you really wanted to say is, as a legitimate dealer (as am I) these people selling out of their trunks were cutting into my profit and what I could charge for my firearms.
Your post blows my mind! Does it happen as you said YES! Does it happen the way you said absolutely not. Criminals are not going to gun shows to buy firearms.

Jeff I'm not sure why people are talking about this now. Talking about this stuff after the fact is useless. It should have been discussed earlier in the week when some of us knew it was going to be voted on yesterday and today so we all could send emails and make phone calls but since we're not allowed to have political discussions some of us didn't bother to post anything because we are tired of getting our posts deleted. Like I said before we should be sending emails left and right to these worthless people in office even though it doesn't do any good it's the only recourse we have. I've been sending emails for the last 2 weeks because I knew this vote was coming up and as usually did absolutely no good. But remember no political threads on here.

I couldn’t agree more. One would think that members of a forum such as this would be encouraged to fight tooth and nail against unconstitutional gun legislation.

there is only one way to stop the guys selling out of the trunk of their car and that is total registration. and a paper trail of every gun and gun owner. no other way.

if you go hunting or target shooting and an official asks for your papers.........

yes you can stay at home and not comply. but you wont be able to do anything or go anywhere with your gun.

Your experiences are different than mine in that regard. Many years back we had a Senator (Howard Metzenbaum) that was rumored to have first been a card carrying member of the American Communist Party before becoming a Democrat. I called his office one day very calm and polite to see if he would reconsider his vote for a Democrat sponsored gun ban. The woman I spoke with listened for a couple of minutes then interrupted me, screaming "DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO, HOW DARE YOU CALL THE SENATOR AND ASK HIM TO CHANGE HIS MIND ON THIS VOTE", then she slammed the phone down. Now we have a chip off the same block as his replacement, Sh17head Clown who is just as anti-gun. The other Senator we have is a RINO (Rob Portman) that is "retiring" on 2022, he can't be counted on to do the right thing when needed. The Conservative Review once gave him a rating of 36%.
My Representative Bob Latta, I've written his office four (4) different times to register a complaint about how NPR is using tax payer dollars with a campaign against all things conservative. All four (4) times I've got nothing that even resembles a response one way or another.
When calling these people, you never get to speak with Representative or the Senator, you get someone that works in their office. You never know if you message is give to whom it's supposed to go to. Being as cynical as I am about these people, I'd wager real dollars that you got someone that want's you to think your message is being given to the office holder and that they care what anyone thinks.
