6.5 PRC & Vihtavuori N565???

Need some help here guys! I am not familiar with this cartridge and I am trying to help a friend reload for his 6.5 PRC factory hunting rifle. The bullet he has chosen to shoot is the Berger 140 Elite Hunter. From some of the research I have done, it appears that H1000 seems to be the magic powder for this cartridge, but since we all know how hard that stuff is to get right now, that won't be happening anytime soon. My friend was able to purchase some VV N565 which I think has a very similar burn rate, or close to H1000? I have looked on Vihtavuori's website for their loading data, but can't seem to find any data for the 6.5 PRC? Should I use the data for H1000 as a guide? Any help on where to start for charge weight of powder would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

I don't shoot 140s in the PRC but have shot 147s and more 156s. In my two barrels the loads have been identical for H1000 and N565 with N565 yielding better velocity. Start low and work up.

H1000 is close-ish to N565 but RL26 and N565 seem to damn near be twins.

Thank you. I will use that for guide then! Thank you all for your help. By the way, what velocities should I be expecting out of a 24" barrel with the 140's?

an 6.5 RSAUM is about 60gr H1000 with 140 berger = 3060 fps, so i think prc would be 2-3 gr less powder and 50-100 fps slower for 24-26" bbl

I burn that powder in my 6.5 PRC Fed 210match LR ignites 57.2grs behind 140-144gr bullets ,velocity of about 3100 out of a 26" barrel Bergara premier ridgeback .I love that powder, but its dang expensive .

I'm shooting 140gr Elite Hunter Bergers with 61gr of VV565. Seated 2.950. At 8000' my avg was 3240 with 9ES . Very accurate.

That is a heavy load, but apparently, it works in your rifle. 56.7grs behind a 135gr Berger produces 3,235 FPS out of 28" Bartlein
