The Great Powder Shortage of 2020 is upon us

A bunch of hoarders and selfish people here... Jesus.
According to the Hoarding TV reality show- a hoarder has to move "stuff" to get from point "A" to "B". I am not even close to that point although I do lose a lot of stuff- always seems to happen when family stops in. Of course I am obligated to replenish stock to maintain inventory levels. I don't want to lose that family time.

Buying primers at 1000 at a time is a waste, especially if you shoot 2000, 3000 or more rounds that you load a year. If I want to buy 30,000 for my own use, that's my business.... A 10 year supply to me is smart and economical, they do not get any cheaper. I buy my powder all at once to take a new barrel from new to the grave. Of course after I choose which powder I need. More people will probably be shooting Shooters World powders before others are back in stock.
I think your hit the nail right on the head. Lots of folks shoot some but if you are a regular competitor in any rifle or pistol discipline you shoot a LOT...like thousands of rounds of competition, practice and load development. Those folks who choose to be prepared are not hoarders, they are prudent people who want to enjoy their hobby despite the political or social malady's that might come. Nothing more, nothing less.

What do u guy think of Accurate 4350 for a 6.5 creed? 140s
One of the mainstays of the 6.5x55 has been IMR 4350. The cases are comparable so it should work and if the accurate version is close to the IMR burn rate wise it should too. What does their website list for powders for your cartridge?

Go online today and try and find toilet paper or Clorox wipes. Go into any big company store and you won't find any. As soon as the arrive, someone loads up all the items and heads for home. It's silliness that drives the cost over the top. Go to eBay and TP is 24.00 for a 4 pack. Clorox wipes are 30.00 for 4. Ridiculous. We're our own worse enemies. Believe it, the powders, primers and brass are next. Then .22 ammo will be extinct. It was so easy to blame the Obama administration but it's us that causes it. His administration may have been the excuse but we ruined the product availability not his administration. I'd love to blame him too. Just hard too.
No, you can blame him. It was the threat of significant new gun legislation under his reign that started it all. It was him.

It's always the threat of new gun legislation under a possible new Democratic President that causes high ammo/gun sales no doubt. Happens every 4 years. Just seems like these Posts are warning if something we've never seen before. It's been going on for decades.

Blame ! There is enough to go around. The emails going around right now are fuel for the fire.

I would like to point out paper towel from are local COSTCO . It came as recycled Forest Product two months ago( Kleenex). This week a wall of Kirkland Brand Paper Towel , So poor you can't pull a sheet off the Rolls.
The Prices have gone up, the Quality down.

Lets hope Reloading Products Don't Suffer the Same Fate ?
This Forum has had a few Fine people step up to help ( Your Truly One).
We are all in this New America Complement's of Nov.2020 .
We will be Much Stronger as one.

Has Been Out

Of course it was too good to be true. Alas, other than a handful of powders in particular, 2019 had good availability.

But as of today? Try to find some AR Comp. Or RL15. Or Varget. Or 8208, H4895, etc etc etc.

As it happens, I'm low on .223 powder and the only thing I'm well stocked on is RL16 for my 6.5. Live and learn.

Note to self-- never let on hand inventory drop below 2-3 pounds.
Too bad you are not in Wisconsin. I sold my Ruger #1V and have 5 # of assorted powder with no use for it.

No it is orders of magnitude different since 2016. They can just rely on executive actions and other non-constitutional maneuvers to get their mandates, because they know the competition will be muzzled, harassed, and maligned by the press, big tech, and educators in future elections.

The last time there was a shortage I didn’t have much of a supply of components, 1 years worth maybe. Wasn’t a very good feeling. I promised myself the next time the supply line filled back up I would buy enough to last years if not decades. Which I did, some here and some there. It’s hard, for me anyways, to spend excess $$$ when you see powder, primers, bullets, brass everywhere you look but I did. If you do that very long it adds up and it hurts nobody at the time, the local gun store appreciated in fact. My buddies were giving me crap, poking a little fun at me even. Now here we are back in another shortage, those same buddies who were chuckling when I was buying are now asking for primers and powder and I’ve given them enough to get by for awhile with a promise to replace it when they can. I’d wager a bunch of us who are low on supplies now are telling theirself the same thing I told myself last time, hopefully they follow through when the supply lines fill back up. It’s a great hobby but it’s not so fun when you have a bunch of firearms and can’t use them, that kinda of sucks.

I have to laugh at the angry ones here.
They put this low on their priority list and have found themselves in a pinch for supplies.

I wonder how many of the angry, out-of-stocker's spent truckloads on a retirement plan; or a new house; or a new car; or a few vacations, since the last shortage.

Now, I'm not saying that those weren't worthy outlets for your precious cash flow, but just a little bit of that pile of money could have saved the bulk of the disgruntled ones from from standing here beating on the keyboard about the lack of supplies for a Very critical box of tools.

I don't have the great paying job that I once did. We moved Wayyyyy out of town for many good reasons.
Don't take vacations since it doesn't fit my budget and I really don't want to be near Most people right now.
However, my component supply right now is unrivaled among my friends and I'm feeling pretty prepared for a Long Dry Year or several.

Point being, if you don't like getting caught without, then you should reevaluate your priorities next time you see supplies available and your thinking about that new I phone
upgrade instead.

Lastly, I have been very impressed with the people on the forums and within my local circle. We've been shopping each other's extras and it's helping us fill our small voids in the supply cabinet.

It's definitely worse than ever. I could go on and on about your comments but I'd probably get pitched off this forum so I'll shut up. All I can say is you are correct
