Borden Ridgeline 6mmAI?

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
I`m thinking about a 6mm AI build,

Would a Borden Ridgeline action be a good fit without going to a full size long action???

Phil.

Jim has built me a couple rifles (not ridgelines) and I have no hesitation recommending him or his actions. It's been a great experience each time.

A longer action for sure- I'm not familiar with the Bordens at all. I can tell you I built one on a short action and the barrel had very little Freeborn and I still couldn't get some of the 90 gr bullets to seat close tobthebkabds and still fit in the mag, I now have a long action that the next one will be built on. Great round though

This will be primarily a varmint gun, I`m thinking I`m going to run with the 75-87gr V-max bullets.
Maybe some others in that weight range, accuracy depending.

My 6 Remington AI 40 degree is built on a Ruger 77 that was originally a 6 Rem. No problem with 85 grain Sierra GKHP fitting in the magazine. When I run 115 Berger VLD Hunting the overall length is similar to a 240 Weatherby so it becomes a single shot.

One set up just for bullets under 100 grains would be fun, especially with the barnes 80 grain TTSX. That could be pretty spectacular as a deer bullet. We have so many raptors and four legged predators that we don't have any woodchucks to shoot at so I never tried the Vmax. I settled on the 115 for deer and coyotes settle for the 115 as well. Not sure if they would prefer a lighter bullet :).

Good luck with it and stay healthy!

The barnes 95 LRX isn't a bad option either. I'm currently using the 90 grain tipped game king, worked well on antelope.

The Ridgeline action length is the ideal fit for a 6mm Rem AI. It is basically a Mauser length action. I have a Defiance XM action which is similar (possibly identical?) for a 257 Rob AI, and it’s perfect. The DBM is my length constraint at just over 3.200” OAL, so a floorplate setup should have slightly more room even.

you will be very pleased with the Borden action,,,,be shure and get a 8 twist Krieger bbl,,,if this is a "carry" gun I like the mag sporter profile 26" ,,,,the 6 AI has a long neck and a .100 FB will work fine with bullets from big to little,,,the 62-68gr should be flat base to have enuff shank in the case neck,,,be shure and try Rx-22 and Rx-25 ,,,Roger
