Shipping primed brass?

Anybody ship primed brass lately with UPS? Get there o.k. no lost or partially opened packages? Gonna ship some with the new label but nowadays also want to make sure I insure right in case it gets "lost". Got it packaged real good so it doesn't rattle around.

If it's just primed brass and not loaded ammo I don't even know whether UPS will require the new "Small Arms Ammunition" label. Even if you do have to apply the label, though, there should be no problem shipping primed brass at a UPS (or Fedex, for that matter) hub.

I think it is up to the person and what you declare is in the package. I know some that do and have shipped primed/unloaded brass, wrapped so it does not rattle or move, and have listed it as just cases or plain brass tubing.

Shipping can become a funny thing there’s no requirement for a carrier to accept freight ... ever.

I’ve had coolers filled with tools from a project site that were rejected because they rattled. there are things that make the carriers suspicious of what’s in them; their suspicions are normally based on the integrity of the package and whether or not it will break open

Shipping brass it is always in your best interest is the shipper to keep it from rattling

Just got 200 "primed" brass from Ammo Supply Warehouse by UPS. No special labels and no issues.

I got a package from Midway once, a shortish cleaning rod, packed diagonally in a large flat box about 14" wide and a couple feet long, that had a few other (not light) fist sized items just tossed in. More like a dead-blow hammer than a shipped package. But all my stuff has to be packed like all the empty space has been filled with epoxy. Go figure.

No, a big part of it is that if the package rattles then the shipping company gets the impression that the loosely packed content may be subject to breakage in route so the employees are trained to not accept rattling packages.

You do not have to declare what you are shipping via UPS, FedEx or USPS unless it is something they require you to do so.

49CFR373.101 Motor Carrier bills of lading:

Every motor common carrier shall issue a receipt or bill of lading for property tendered for transportation in interstate or foreign commerce containing the following information:

• Names of consignor and consignee.
• Origin and destination points.
• Number of packages.
• Description of freight.
• Weight, volume, or measurement of freight (if applicable to the rating of the freight).

If you look at the form that is filled out to complete a UPS shipment, they ask what is in the box, same for at the counter. The requirement can be waived if both parties agree in writing.

You don't have to announce what you are shipping, but if they ask you are obligated to inform them so that they may comply.

Description of freight can be really generic, but I would suggest that you not be misleading.
