So I see the recommendation for Guntab as replacement for PayPal. I am always nervous about PayPal locking up my funds.
How many people here are actually using Guntab and what has your experiences been with them?

I'm locked and loaded, just waiting for something to pop up that I need with a seller that is likewise prepared.

The first thought that occurs to me is the exposure of sensitive account numbers.
I am apprehensive to expose that information to utilities, etc; much less some completely unknown entity.
If you pay by check for anything, every check has you checking account number and bank routing number printed on the bottom of the check. When you do a bank to bank payment all you do is give your bank the bank routing number, account number of the recipients account and amount, just like you do when you write a paper check. Some banks allow it, some will produce a bank check and mail it to the recipient.

I guess the advantage of Paypal and others is for the high volume user more so than someone like me.

Zelle is your bank doing the transaction though. It’s giving your bank permission to talk to the person you’re doing business with bank. You literally only use an email or a phone number. You don’t give the other person, or vice versa, your bank info.
Be careful. All the bank is doing is making it easy for Zelle to take money out of your checking acct. There is no recourse from the bank, or Zelle for that matter to get your money back if it goes south. Also, Zelle prohibits anything gun related as well. Unfortunately I learned this one the hard way. There is a reason the bank warns you to only send money to someone you know and trust.

I signed up for GunTab will see how it goes

I highly recommend Zelle as a means to transfer funds, its fast and free.

I think you may misunderstand how Zelle works. I use Zelle to transfer money whenever I can because it is very secure. The only thing I'm exposing is my cell number. Each transaction has its own transaction number that you have to have a 2 step verification, so no one can withdraw or deposit into your checking account without your approval. This is way better than writing a check, but once you approve a transaction the money is gone for good, just like a check. If you want more protection, that's what credit cards are for.

I am unaware of any gun related restrictions by Zelle, but I'm not trading on GunBroker. I have transferred money for reloading supplies between individuals and I don't see how Zelle can block that. I see this more as a GB issue. YMMV.

I know exactly how it works- once you hit send, it’s gone. For ever. I’d much rather use an escrow acct or pay the cc fees knowing I can challenge it. Manage your own risk.

Any body here remember what a krapshow GunPal-later Gpal turned into?
Did not end well!

I just signed up and used GunTab for the purchase of a rifle on this forum from BullsEye-T. Overall I like the protection from a buyers standpoint, and it apparently provides protection to the seller against chargebacks and fraudulent payments.

- Takes a few days to sign up as they require payment either via CC or a checking account. The latter requires validation via deposits and verification. CC will cost extra $$. (No use using CC as a protection method, as you can't do chargebacks with GunTab)

- After the approval of accounts (both parties need to be approved), GunTab provided good communication on the transaction progress after every step. They accepted my payment and held it, while informing the seller it was ok to ship the rifle.

- I got notified when the rile was delivered to my FFL and had 3 days to inspect. One small drawback I see is that the 3 days start upon delivery, whether its on a weekend or weekday, so choose your FFL wisely for accessibility.

- If you're rejecting the item (and proof is required that there is a significant reason), proof must be sent to GunTab and they act as the final arbitrator of the dispute. If it is valid the seller pays for the item to be shipped back. (Behooves the seller to be completely transparent of any significant flaws)

- The returned item also goes through another 3 day inspection period by the seller, to insure it is not been damaged. Upon approval or 3 days, money is released back to the buyer.

- Back to the original transaction, if the item is as advertised, the buyer sends approval to GunTab, who releases the funds to the sellers bank account. Here is where another delay happens as it takes ~2-3 days for the funds to hit your bank account. In my case I approved it on Sat, (same day it was delivered) but funds could not start the transfer process from GunTab until Monday, then it took 3 days.

So bottom line, if you're not in a big hurry to get your funds, and you want to be protected (buyer and seller) using an escrow service, they worked pretty good for my purchase. Also, their fees (~3% or so) can be negotiated by the parties as to who pays. In my case I paid for the fees, since I suggested using the service.

@nrs, thanks for trying us. And for the thorough writeup. Glad to hear it went smoothly for you.

We wish the bank account transfers could be faster too. Unfortunately that's the standard for everybody right now, including PayPal, Zelle, etc. The Federal Reserve is working on a same-day program but it's not widely available yet. We're definitely keeping an eye on it.

I know nothing about Zelle. What do they do if you violate their policy? Confiscate your payment? Ban you? Send somebody around to break your legs? I'm pretty sure they can't send you to jail.
