6.5 mm 156 Berger EOL Bullets

I am looking at the 6.5 RPM to shoot high BC bullets and heavier copper Mono's.
The FB on the Weatherby print is .188
I may have JGS cut a reamer with FB based on my dummy rounds.

Would anyone be willing to give or sell me 3 of the 156's

Thanks
Mark

I'll try to get by the post office today. Have fun with them. They shot very well in the 6.5 PRC I was developing. Not F Class well where 1/4 MOA or less over a long string of fire is the goal but very well for hunting at 1/2 MOA or less on cold bore shots. When I first tested them in a match my first sighter was an X, second sighter was an X, first shot for record was an X. A friend of mine who was scoring said "Holy Hell". I was thinking the same thing that I'd found the magic sauce. Then as the barrel heated I started getting tens and some 9's. I was using H1000 to drive them and I think that over the course of a long string of fire the barrel was getting a little too fouled. When I cleaned it I was back to shooting X's and 10's the next time I tried it.

I've been shooting the 156 for F Class for the last 1 1/2 years. A couple months ago after my last match of the day my puller who is a LR High Master said it held the best waterline he'd ever seen. Your rifle may or may not like them but they certainly can shoot over long long strings in the right rifle.

Yeah, I agree, in the right rifle they have serious promise. Mine was not the right rifle. It was a BAT VR action with a tapered 30 inch barrel set in a Bravo KRG rubber stock. The stock has a rigid metal backbone and for lighter calibers the setup is fine. For Magnum calibers pushing heavy bullets, not so much. Something like a BAT M set in a quality rigid F Class stock with a RAD system and a cleaner powder driving them it may be a different story. That's an investment I'm not willing to make at this point in time. I saved the barrel and have a bunch loaded up. If I every go long range hunting I'll screw that barrel on and used it. The setup would make a great 700 yard antelope gun.

I remember that target, it was like only 1/2" vertical across all shots!

I'm gathering parts to build a 6.5 PRC and planning on using the 156 Berger's. What kind of speed were you getting with them. Did you load them with the bearing surface above the neck shoulder junction, if so what was your freebore on the reamer.

Thanks, John

I would like to try these in my 6.5-284, it seems to have a very long throat (leade?), .065 jump in order to have .264 bearing surface in the neck.

These bigger, longer bullets seem like they may be a good fit. Or is my reasoning off? I'm still pretty new to this.

Problem is there are none in Canada that I can find. I get the feeling we have'nt had very many here at all.

They have a long bearing surface so yes you have the right idea. The 153.5 is also worth a try.

I was getting 2958 with H1000 and fed 210M primers with the 156 Bergers. It was not the hottest node but it was the most accurate for me. I'd played with 140 Bergers, 147 Hornady's and the 156 Bergers. Had the most consistent results with the 156 Bergers. The 140's were not shooting as consistently and I was stripping jackets with the Hornady's. The 156's are the keepers.

P.S. yes, the bearing surface was well above the neck/shoulder junction. Base to ogive was 2.365. In my barrel that was 20 thou off.

P.S.S. it was the SAAMI spec reamer. I did not specify additional throat.
