Question on semi wildcat reamer design

I have the desire to make up myself a little semi wildcat. Simply put I want to neck 223 up to 30 cal and use 110gr bullets in a 17 twist barrel. So here are the questions
1 Should I consider a steeper throat shorten distance to lands in my 2.26 magazine limit? (rifle is a mini mauser) I know I dont have to be in the lands but I sure want the ability, I was gonna ask Mr Manson his thoughts on this one but I dont want to waste his time with a big list of em.
2 I made up a few dummy rounds with several different brands of brass. How much over loaded neck diameter should I run? Whats the minimum? I intend to use lc brass because I have 2k of em its intended as a varmint rig not a br
3 Should I make a cerro casting of my resize die and let that influence my shoulder and .200 line measurements? Again I dont plan to fret over brass to much but it will all have to make a pass through the resizer die before I can load it anyway.
QL shows about a 400 fps boost over the 300blk with 110gr bullets and 32 cal pistol bullets might well serve for a kids first deer rifle! And I want it, which is reason enough. Thanks for any advice And why do they call 30 cal pistols 32 cal?
Add in case anyone is interested a 17.5 twist at 2700fps shows on jbm stabilty calc bullets of .880 in length. The sierra 110s and a couple 125s seem short enough. The hornady 110 vmax is a touch long .

I don’t know the answers to your questions. There is a guy named Guffy that could probably answer these really well but he doesn’t seem to be on here much lately.

Your wildcat isn't the first horse out of the gate. Do a search for 30/223 Rem, 30 Apache and 7.62x40WT

I was just looking for advice on custom spec'ing a reamer for a specific narrow purpose.
Thought if I gave some story I'd head off the why would you do that derail train. Seems there are multiple trains

Well, I didn't mean to zing you. You just don't have to start from scratch with your wildcat idea. There are some people (not me) that have done this before. Look up the info on those cartridges and you might find the answers to your questions.

Wilson combat do a similar in an AR.
Interestingly, had a discussion with some military (serving) guys. Theres s lot of interest with 30 Blk to replace the 9mm. Plans to use 10 or 12 in ARs with 125g. Better temporary wound cavity from increased velocity.

My interest is only in 110 gr range, I already have 17 twist tube. The 7.62x40 was in second place firmly, but I dont buy factory ammo, which wasn't avliable all the time and a custom reamer is only $50 more than a standard. 30-223 is just easier and cheaper long run.

makes a ton of sense! I had strongly considered just doing a blk but that extra 400 fps and no need for heavier bullets washed it out. lol Plus I already have a top tier barrel in 17 twist cant sell it and $$$ of another just scraps the whole project.

So having gone down this path before , call the reamer maker of your choice and send them the dummy cartridges you have made. Then they can measure the cases that you made with your dies and come up with recommendations. May I suggest jgs reamers? Great company and willing to help with out of the normal box requests.

Nothing special, ch4d marked 30-223 bought cheap used. But they are what i have. I do expect to have to adjust the seater stem, but maybe not. Being a hunting rig I expect to loose some brass, or at least I hope too!
I would think it would be pretty easy to get a reamer that works. Just need to figure out the throat. Take the pointiest bullet you might like. Seat to something just short of mag length. Scribe a line using calipers set at .307" on the ogive, measure base to the line and give that number to your reamer maker. They can fill in the gaps.

Thank you!

Consideration - will you have the horsepower to stabilize your bullet of choice in a 17 twist barrel. I shoot a 125 gr TNT in a 7.62x40 in a 10tw. Using 25gr of A-1680 ( compressed), I see right at 2400fps. The guys shooting 30BR run 3000 +/- 50 in their 17tw. Good luck with it. Keep us posted.

QL shows I should be able to hit 2800fps with 110s. I am in a bolt gun and not limited to 55k The hamr was not around when I began my thinking, I moved and every project got set aside for a year! The hamr looks real close but the only real gain would be its a factory cartridge, but I hand load and dont buy. Then if I sold the rifle it may help, but its still a semi custom so next door to worthless and the 17t barrel would only let you run very specific bullets. So I might have to pay a guy to take it! Or I can follow my original plan and have it at least be my reiteration of old to new! lol Had I known the hamr existed before I bought a 17 twist tube I think Id just go that route.
