223 Ackely Improved / What's next

That's great info thanks. I sent the "smith" an email requesting the free bore measurements. I am waiting to hear back from him. I would tend to think he would know about 4D rentals..
The best way is to buy your own reamer. Spec it out how you want it and have the right chamber for what you're doing. Then find a rifle builder who's very savvy about Ackleys (not that big a deal, but surprising how many "gunsmiths" don't know much about them) and let him do it. Only downside is the cost of a reamer and the wait to get it.

Where is a good place to buy a reamer? PTG? And when I specify one out I ask for " No Throat?"
What should I expect to pay for a reamer?

I get mine from JGS. There is also Manson, too. You can email or call them and ask for a zero freebore 223 Ackley Improved and they'll send you a print. You can further refine based on what brass you will use, neck diameter (turn or no turn), etc.

I think my last reamer was 165 or so but it's been a few years.

Having read more than a couple of "Who should grind my reamer" threads, PTG is very hit and miss. VERY!!!
It seems like Manson, for one, is more expensive but not a roll of the dice for more drama than a sane, non masochistic person can handle.
Can you tell I would give my business to ANYONE else?

I'll contact JGS and Dave Manson and see about delivery and price. Thank you!!
I was also cautioned from the barrel supplier about PTG.

Be sure the reamer uses a bushing, don't get a solid pilot reamer. And that whoever chambers it will have the right size pilot.

Called Manson: They have a .223 AI in stock.. "Throat" is .025" ( I hope I'm saying that correctly)
They can do a "non throat" / zero free bore for +$40.
Reamer $145 + $40 for grinding. Total: $185

That 0.025 throat will be fine for anything you want to shoot. What is the neck diameter? Do you plan to turn your necks?

Current ammo / Necks measure .2465" / I do not plan on turning necks.
Reamer ordered. "No throat" / .2185" bushing ( removable pilot)

Doncha just love it when a plan comes together ;) :)
Manson surely didn't fiddle fart around getting it to you.
