Barrel Nut??--Rem

Gold $$ Contributor
Is there a good remage nut made that you can use a box end wrench on?
Opinions on a good/best nut, strength/trueness of nuts etc.
thanks marc

I have a Pac nor pac-nut on my 260AI and I like it, it looks much better having a long taper, but uses a standard Savage wrench. I think Bug Holes Bug Nut is 6 sided, but theirs are not for standard thread.

Pac nor opened back up for business end of summer I believe. The bug nut is proprietary to their barreling system, they use a larger diameter thread for the nut. Its a really clean looking system, but they have to barrel it for you. IMO, kinda takes away from the DIY aspect of going remage, but once you get a bug nut system I think he can just spin up another barrel for you to match.

I agree--how is it different if it threads into a 700?? thanks marc

He turns a larger diameter threaded step for the barrel nut and the nut has a recess to allow a larger diameter barrel to fit. The tenon threading into the action is the same, but the nut is not threaded onto that tenon.

crafty feller---Im glad you told me--I just need a plain old nut that is same as 700 receiver thread--thanks again

I believe the Bugnut cut is an additional .700" plus the typical .885" tenon. To me it's a much better option allowing a larger diameter over the chamber versus 1.058" for the typical Remage. I'll be using one on one of my next builds.

... Just verified via an email from back in August, .700" should be correct.

To settle the accuracy issue, I have a great shooting LR BR barrel in 6 BRA. It was one of my first chamber jobs and I made a rookie mistake, which resulted in the chamber being very large at the back end. I have always planned to cut off the threads and rechamber as it is only about half used up.

I could easily make it into a barrel nut barrel for my BAT B light gun.

I take it that this is not the same sytem Pac-Nor uses?

I have a Pac Nut on a CBI remage barrel, its just a different shaped nut for a standard remage. I know Shilen also uses a step, they call theirs alter-nut, but it uses a standard Savage Large shank nut.
