Seating plug in die can not touch bullet

RCBS Dies 18212 for .357 mag
Redding Big Boss Press

I was going to load up some .357 ammo today and came across a problem never encountered before. The seating plug is too short. It never touches the bullet. This is the first time using these particular dies.

This is a RCBS 3 die set and the sizing die and expander die works fine.

Is there a workaround for this?

Have another seating plug made?

RCBS is no help at all.

I’m assuming that you have the seater plug threaded fully into the die body? Are you loading wadcutters?

Found the problem. No the die was not seated enough in the press due to a burr on the thread.

Burr on the thread of the die would not allow it to go any further down. When I thought the die was in the correct position, it had only hung up on the burr. Rat tail file took care of the problem.

Thanks.

Is that a seat/crimp die? I always screw the seat die body down until it starts crimping, then back it off to not crimp (assuming I'm crimping separately.) Having the die higher shouldn't affect anything, but it makes me feel better.

Yes it is. The thread on the die was deformed and after using a rat tail file the problem was fixed.
