65 vs 67/68gr bullets in 6br

can someone enlighten me as to why there are 65gr and then 67/68gr bullets for 6mm?

is there a specific use for one or the other?

i have a 1:10 twist 6br and am looking at getting some custom bullets to try in it...and just noticed this trend (BIB and Bart's, specifically)

you will find "Benchrest" bullets from 62-74gr ,,,it is usually determined by the jacket length and die profile,,,and most important the bullet mfg.s personal preference,,,,,most boutique bullets made by true competitors will give excellent results,,,BIB and Barts are as good as they get,,,,,Roger

With a 10 twist I would look at least the 80 gr. Barts..... or 88-90 gr. Bergers.... jim

Yes....... If you had a 12-13.5 twist it would be better for the 68 gr. bullets ... I would be nice to know your free bore, If over .060 ...... jim

The 80 grn Barts are as long and heavy as I would go if you want the pure precision potential of a short range Benchrest bullet. In all honesty, a 1-12 twist is ideal. Your 1-10 will work, but for optimum accuracy, a slower twist suited for the bullet you choose will be better.
In my opinion, if you are going to shoot shorter lighter bullets, go for the most accurate one you can find. At 300 and below, BC is a non factor. I have shot both Barts 80’s and multitudes of 65/68 grn Benchrest bullets in Registered Competition. I can achieve sub .200 agging capability with the 80’s out of a 1-12 twist and 65/68 out of a 13.5.
I simply cannot do it with 90+ grn bullets At the shorter ranges.
As for your question, many custom bullet makers experiment to find the ideal weight for their particular dies. In Benchrest, it’s the little things that come with a true custom bullet that makes the difference.

I have several different ogive die sets and some prefer the .825 jacket some prefer the .790
also some people will shoot an 825 or a 790 at certain ranges and weather conditions
