Can someone tell me where i can find information on the 30PPC , want to build one . would someone be making the dies for this or do you have to make them from 6PPC dies, would there be a reamer print , twist rate, bullet weight ETC
Thanks for any information.
 
It's a fairly common cartridge among score shooters under several names. Benchrest Central and here have several shooters using this. .

"30 ppc" from 7.62x39?

I'd like to "build" myself a cheap to shoot accurate plinker. Plan is to use a savage action and shoot 110 vmax up through to the 125 smk. Brass of choice is looking like it'll be lapua 7.62x39 and i'd prefer to go with a no-turn neck. Anybody do something similar and have reamer specs available?

Good little cartridge. I've been shooting a 30 Major for years, based on 6.5 Grendel Lapua brass. It's a tad bigger than a ppc, right between a ppc and a br and works with a ppc bolt. The biggest difference is the simplicity of just necking up, turning and shooting. Dies are easy as well. There's a print on my site under diagrams.

I agree with gunsandgunsmithing. Having once considered the 30ppc myself but case forming was a lot of work to go from .220 Russian to .30. Forming .30ppc from the 7.62 Russian case is not as desirable because it has a LR primer. The .30 Major is much easier and has the nuts to stay with the .30br better at 200. I used reamer print 30 Major Match # 12971 from PT&G, 17 twist Krieger and bullets between 115 and 118 grains. Full length die is an off the shelf Redding 6.5 Grendel with the shelf opened up. Seating die is a Wilson blank chambered with my reamer. Actually I credit gunsandgunsmithing for all the guidance on the project.

I guess so. I've been shooting them since 2007 so I know the cartridge pretty well. It's a really good cartridge.

Been shooting a 6 Grendel mostly, for the last few years. It's good too.

I plan to shoot the 30 more this year. The only reasons I I have the 6 more is, UBR is caliber neutral, so no advantage to a bigger bullet hole..and just getting to know it better. I've enjoyed it too. I plan to shoot both.
 
I guess my point was you accused Dwayne of being too modest, maybe it you that is being to modest. After all you invented the chambering that holds the Canadian record.
 
I had a 30 PPC for years and sold it a couple of months ago. It was a dedicated 40X cast bullet rifle. Unfortunately the smith that built it just died. He would have been a world of info on it.

I built a 30 PPC for the youngest grandson to shoot score with.
If you neck up 220 Russian you'll find the case shortens excessively, down to 1.470 + - .
The reamer I used was 1.520 chamber length, necking up 6.5 Grendel brass resulted in a case length of 1.504 which worked out much better.
We shoot 29.9 gr. of N120 and it shoots dots, Dusty mentioned it is underpowered but out to 200 yards it is plenty but stretching it out to 300 a BR is superior.
I shot more 250 scores at 200 with it than I did the BR.

Do you use the Grendel brass as is just necked up?
 
I still have my 30PPC reamer. I shot the 30PPC before switching over to a 30BR. The link in post #3 pretty much covers my experience.
One misconception is that the recoil is substantially less than a 30BR. Since you are still shooting a 112 grn bullet over 2900 FPS, you will wonder why not just build a BR.
 
I found if you do one foreform in a 6PPC with 220 Russian to get the shoulder, then fireform that to the 30PPC using pistol powder, the cases do not shrink in size and the cases are very concentric. Much better than all the expanding process. Or use Norma PPC brass as is, and fireform in a 30PPC chamber. Works great.
