It’s my farthest hit on a running coyote, previous farthest was the shot prior at 375 yards. Rear leg on 375 yard shot, mid spine on 420 yard shot. Needless to say, a follow up shot was required.
What’s the lead on something like that. Feet, yards? It’s my farthest hit on a running coyote, previous farthest was the shot prior at 375 yards. Rear leg on 375 yard shot, mid spine on 420 yard shot. Needless to say, a follow up shot was required.
I guess it depends on his speed, the angle, and wind. Those kind of shots are the human mind at work. Earth's top predator. What’s the lead on something like that. Feet, yards?
You are right about the "lead". When using a .17 HMR, any shot on a fast running coyote is like swinging on a bird.lead is a seat of the pants thing, it seems I have a knack for it as I have taken many coyotes on the run. Deep snow helps slow them down, and sometimes you can see hits in the snow to adjust lead.
Lead yesterday was roughly 3.5 feet in front of where I actually hit. It was running full speed, but uphill in 8 inches of snow at a diagonal, away from me.
