You need a load range E 10 ply tire. I've had good luck with Goodyear Wrangler M&S. There is alot of shale here in northern Maine and they stand up well to abuse. Good luck.Looking for a tough off road tire for work and hunting,I have been busting tires in the rocks. The ones I have on now are Coopers, busted two in the last month.Have ran Toyo's but no milage and noisy. My main concern is they have to hold up it the rocks.I must run 40% off road min.
Unless they've changed the tread pattern or rubber compound, they'll be the loudest AT tire. At least they were for me. These are all my experiences. Can't really speak about the newest tires as it's been 6-8 years since I've had duratracks. They came on a truck I bought and only had 7000 miles on them. They were the loudest AT tires I've ever had. They had really good tread life left and no cupping or uneven wear. It just was an annoying tire to ride on.

How's the road noise on them ? Again they could have changed them quite a bit since I had a set. At that time there was quite a lot of complaints about the noise of the tireI have noticed the Duratrak's have different tread patterns.
I got a set for my Raptor [315/70-17] because I wanted more of a mt tire than the Goodrich at 's it came with
The tread is much more open than the ones GM puts on there trucks .
Noise is not bad I only run them for hunting season and I wanted something better in mud then the Goodrich AT's the raptor came with and the Dratrack is the most aggressive tread I found with severe winter ratingHow's the road noise on them ? I didn't keep the Duratrac tired long enough to see snow. My BFG ATs were excellent on snow. They were fairly quiet till they wore down some. Still very good tires. I'm sure Goodyear made some positive changes In the newest Duratrac. I always find the narrower tire works best in snow. My 285/75-18 is 35" tall. Compared to the 35/12.50-18, mine are 1.5" narrower which makes them a better tire in snow. Not sure what your BFGs are vs your Duratrac tiresNoise is not bad I only run them for hunting season and I wanted something better in mud then the Goodrich AT's the raptor came with and the Dratrack is the most aggressive tread I found with severe winter rating
What surprised me was even in deep heavy snow the Goodrich AT's are better
They get maybe 3,000 miles a year and come off for summer so they get rotated often.
Both are 315/70-17 [35/12.5-17] The BFG's were a special spec made for the RaptorI didn't keep the Duratrac tired long enough to see snow. My BFG ATs were excellent on snow. Well you had apples to apples so you could compare them fairly. Sounds like you found your tire. Curious how well they will wear on the road ?Both are 315/70-17 [35/12.5-17] The BFG's were a special spec made for the Raptor
they were the absolute best tire I ever had in all snow conditions deep drifts, plow banks and icy hard pack snow. I wanted something that worked better in mud. Which the Duratrac does but it gives up in snow.
I very used truck as a daily driver and only had the duratrac's on for 5 month's at a time, 3 or 4k a year maybe the will dry rot before I wear them outWell you had apples to apples so you could compare them fairly. Sounds like you found your tire. Curious how well they will wear on the road ?
That's true. I'm gonna get a new set of tires for my truck next spring. I have some life left but I can tell the sound is starting to increase and even the ride is a bit rougher. Looking at Yokohama X/ATs. Never had them but heard good things. I guess I'll find outI very used truck as a daily driver and only had the duratrac's on for 5 month's at a time, 3 or 4k a year maybe the will dry rot before I wear them out
I never saw where you mentioned what Cooper tires you were running or what kind of rocks you were in. Way too many variables to make a blanket statement saying that Coopers aren't any good. This was a very good discussion. Since I was also looking at the time, I wanted to add an update. I bought the Kenda Klever RT 275/55r20. They are holding out extremely well! Much more aggressive than an AT, but not loud like a MT. I have almost 50k miles on them and still over half the tread left, and no uneven wear. The local tire shop that ordered them in for me, has been selling lots of them since. I talked with the owner today, and showed him how well that they’re holding up. He even said that he’s going to get them for his next tire on personal truck.
I guess that I’m not sure what you’re talking about. I never said anything about Cooper tires anywhere in this thread. But since you’re bringing them up, I did run a set of Cooper built Mastercraft tires on a Tahoe about 6 years ago.I never saw where you mentioned what Cooper tires you were running or what kind of rocks you were in. It reminds me of a lot of hunters I know that say brand x ammo isn't any good because "I had to track a deer for 4 miles and I think it just died from exhaustion, not the bullet wound". When in reality all it amounted to was poor bullet selection and poor shot placement.
There's a whole lot more to tires than just a name on the side. Design and construction are key to the conditions they're being put through.
I apologize. I quoted the wrong response.I guess that I’m not sure what you’re talking about. I never said anything about Cooper tires anywhere in this thread. But since you’re bringing them up, I did run a set of Cooper built Mastercraft tires on a Tahoe about 6 years ago.
