Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hey y’all.
I’ll be reading this closely. I’ve loaded plenty of BP rifle and pistol rounds and some smokeless pistol stuff, but zero experience with necked rifle rounds.
I have some new 6.5CM Lapua Brass and a couple different weights of scenar bullets, so I’ll be looking at all y’all’s recipes and trying not to blow either me or my rifle up.

Current residence WA state. Retired old curmudgeon is there any other kind. Interested in 5.56, new to me cartridge. Great time for finding and buying components, huh, Anyway I have some small rifle primers, a variety of slower 308 powders, new dies. And some 69 grain bullets Lapua and Sierra match kings both BTHP.

Been reloading since highskool (about 60 years ago--I'm now 76-1/2) and have had 'on' periods and 'off' periods.. Got interested in pistols--for carrying, not for competition--more than a decade ago and am still reloading for my 40S&W, newish Ruger 5.7X28 pistol, and again for my 18"-barrelled AR-15 in 6X45.. Its twist rate of 10" is consistent with its case length of 45mm*, and I've been shooting 85g. Speer soft-point boattails.. Just found a bunch of 'factory-second' red-plasic-tipped, all-copper, 80g. bullets that I believe are Hornady GMXs and have loaded a few to test Saturday and Sunday.. We'll see how that goes.

I've known this forum since 2007 with a Bill Shehane-'smithed 6.5-284 Shehane with BAT action, 28" barrels, etc. that I shot a year-and-a-half in thousand-yard comp**....

...but I tired of that after wearing out my 3rd barrel and sold everything.. Restarted in 2017 with a Savage-12 benchrest rifle in 6.5-284.

By then my right shoulder was wearing out and I was rather sensitive to recoil so I rebarrelled that to 6.5 Creedmoor and then to 6XC.. Just when I was shooting initial groups, that, too, wore me out, so in my safe it rests..

* That is, it doesn't shoot long bullets very accurately.
** One lucky Saturday I managed to shoot, at a thousand yards, a 5-shot group of 4-9/16" and a 10-shot group of 7-odd-inches.. It was all downhill from there.. :-(

those are some beautiful rifles

Hello from Upstate NY! New to reloading. I have some reloading under my belt but just started about 2 months ago. I have reloaded my 30-30 and tried some different reloads for my .38 S&W's. That is where I will have the most questions right now... Thanks for letting me join! Hope to get some answers and try my best to help others.

I am an older guy, been reloading for over 40 years and have shot a lot of different disciplines. Always looking forward to learn something new.
Considering Long Range Precision. Savage M12 6.5x284

Hi Everyone. I live, hunt and fish mostly in SE Pennsylvania. I learned to shoot trap in the boy scouts and I been enjoying it ever since. Started reloading shotgun shells back then so I could afford to shoot more. Slowly worked my way into reloading rifle rounds for hunting and plinking. The last few years I reload more for accuracy. I'm am now retired and have lots of time to spend on my favorite outdoor hobby. Thanks for allowing me to join your forum.

Hello. I'm retired old guy who reloaded pistol ammo on my Father-in-Law's Hornady progressive 40 years ago. How time flies. When I was working I was a systems engineer for a big defense company. Now I'm reloading ammo for my hunting rifles and trying to get more precise. I always love building DIY for all my hobbies (e.g., loudspeakers, ham radio, acoustic guitars, golf clubs). I have a current interest in building a DIY induction annealing system.

Hello everyone, I am another newbie who is thankful to everyone for helping spread great info and generously giving of their time to help this community.

I've mostly been reading the induction annealing thread after Bruce recommended it. I haven't ordered any parts yet and am still not sure which way to go. Currently working a lot, after an extremely slow (laid off) summer, and am not certain if I want to put the time into building something or just get something that works. From what I can tell the only autofeeder available is $1800 and i guess giraud has been saying for several years they'll have an induction unit available very soon. Anyways, that's where my mind is at the moment. Thanks again for this board.

Welcome aboard all you new guys.. If you have specific questions regarding some of the basics, i worked as a tech at Redding. If I don't know, I won't BS you. I will direct you to someone who can help.

Welcome. Maybe we’ll call you “Bob’s Big Boy”

Hi all. New to forum but not to reloading. Been reloading since the late 1980's. Started reloading for High Power competition and now have more calibers than I should. Still looking to learn.

Read your forum several times. Finally have a question to ask. Retired currently reloading 1,500 9mm. Reloaded 357, 38 special, 30-06, 45acp and 270. Over the years shoot on my range 100 to 1400 rounds depending which child shows up. Looking at steel factory targets. Been using used scrap metal {the good kind]. Want to upgrade to maybe reactive type targets. Pleasure joining your group. Hope you hit everything you aim for, doesn't get any better than that!

Hi every one. I found this site while looking for some answers to a problem. Was in hopes you could help me. I am Captain Jim. I have a M1A chambered in 6.5 CreedMoor. I started reloading for it looking for better accuracy. It is very accurate but it does not cycle but about 1/2 the time. I started with H4350 and 140 Gr. bullets. I am now down to 120 Gr. bullets and IMR4895 with better results but it still has problems chambering the next round.

Hi, I also found this forum looking for information on loads for a new rifle. It looks like a fine place.
Looking forward to learning more.

Hey all. I've been thinking about reloading my .308s after getting hurt at work and, being faced with a considerable amount of time off, figured it was as decent time as any to get it going. I came into a bunch of mixed powders, primers, and 208gr AMAXs from a guy that was getting out of it, so I'm going to try my hand at working up some subsonic loads. I hunt, don't compete, but I like shooting far things as much as the next guy.
So far you guys have been a wealth of info, and good to 'meet' you all.
