Ruger MK II pistol safety engaging

OK, just replaced the sear in my MK II with a Volquartsen VC2TS Target Sear.

Had no issues with the install but after assembly I notice that my safety is very hard to operate.

It looks like I need to file just about .010 off the safety catch so it will lock the sear up.

Anyone have this issue?

It works great with the old factory sear.

I don't know the answer but I would do some research before modifying the safety catch. Contact Volquartsen, ask them if custom fitting is required for their sear. I was under the impression it was a drop-in procedure.

I'm not going to start grinding until I find out if modifications are needed.

Just thought I would ask here to see if someone else had the same issue.

With the top end off you should see what’s catchin

Ive replaced the ignition parts in several MKIII 22/45’s with Volquartsen parts. All dropped in, some of the safetys were stiff but loosened some, never had to fit the safety.

I can see that the safety wants to over the top of the sear but it is very hard. If I really push on the safety lever it will cam over the sear and lock it up. looks like either the new sear is just a tad thicker than the factory and if I remove just a bit of material off the safety it will cam over the sear. The detent in the safety will keep the safety in both positions (on/off) so I don't think it will be a issue of the safety coming off on it's own if I remove a slight bit of material.

Stone or file on the easiest to replace / less expensive part
