25-284...Short or Long action ???

Man, those do look long!

Ok, 2 questions....

1) What twist rate to shoot these?
2)How do they perform on game?

Ok, 3 questions.
Anybody shoot some ballistic gel with one?
The smaller cases (25x47) need a 7 twist, the bigger ones like my 25-7mm SAUM IMP can use a 8 twist, as can the WBY's...
They get stuff dead really quick.. Up to and including Elk..

3.141 is where they shoot best for me..
Sorry about the delay, I'm still deer hunting up here..
Appreciate the response. That's about .030 shorter than my loaded 6.5-284 rounds with 140 berger vlds. Definitely needs a long action if using a magazine. Our rifle season ended on Monday but archery is all this month And muzzleloader starts friday. I'll be out all month as well. Thanks. John

Thank You, Preacher!
Our started this past Saturday. Ends next Saturday.
Shot my first buck in 35 years of hunting with my Ruger 77 MKII in 257 Roberts.
100gr Ballistic Tip did just fine!
Daughter shot one with the 115gr Berger VLD last year.
"He kinda puffed up, legs locked, and he fell over".

I have a short and long action already to use. Looks like by all accounts I'll be needing the LA for this 25-284 build to get optimum performance. It'll be used for a hunting rifle using the 115-120s mostly but I'll use the 131s for 1000 yd + shooting as well. Going with a 24" barrel rather than a 28". I'll deal with the 90fps loss in velocity. 3200 fps is plenty of speed for the 131. I'll load much lower for the 115/120s.

More then one way to skin the wild cat.

My nightmares have nightmares......LOL
Ya I followed your SA284 Post. Nice conversion. Good numbers too. Would have went with the .257 BJ but I kinda like the 25-284 idea. Won't add much weight going LA. I actually ported the action body on both sides and fluted and skeletknized the bolt reducing a bit of weight. Should be close. Most weight reduction is the barrels and stocks anyway. 2 lb stock and 3.85lb barrel. Not sure how Savage keeps their newest Ultralight rifle at 5.85 lbs. Stock must be well under 2 lbs.
