Will this LR-308 Buffer Kit from Midway work in my PSA PA-10 .308 build? Cheers

Your receiver should specify whether it’s “commercial” or “mil-spec”. If it says commercial, then no. I believe the two specs have different OD buffer tubes. You can probably find more by Googling “commercial vs. mil-spec”. Call or email PSA if you don’t know your receiver’s specs.

The receiver does not care whether the OD of the buffer tube is comm or mil-spec in diameter as the receiver internal threading is the same. What does matter is the buffer weight, length and the spring/spring rate as the AR308 carbine is a different dog.

Are you cloning the PA-10 exactly or using some other type of collapsible stock? Also can’t always assume that these ”kit assembles” include the correct parts for your application. I built a 16 inch AR308 carbine on a UBR stock and I used a 8.5 oz buffer and 308 rifle spring, its runs like a sewing machine. Check out heavybuffers.com, it can save you some headache.

Here is one source stating the different diameters on both ends of the mil-spec and commercial tubes:

Here‘s my point concerning the threading; generally nobody today makes non-mil spec receiver extension housing threading. Thus, since they all supposedly claim to be “mil spec”, those receivers will accept both tubes, as the thread pitch is the same, but the Colt TDP does specify rolled threads. Since the mil-spec receiver extension housing has the major thread diameter, the commercial tubes screw in with no problem. If the tube threading made that much of a difference, there would be 2 different sized castle nuts, but there is one size castle nut. Since modern receivers accept both tubes, the only really issue is buttock fitment, especially when trying place a mil-spec stock on the larger commercial diameter tube or vice versa resulting in possible loose buttstock fitment.

Also mil spec ar big bore rifles is kind of bastard term. There’s no real reference TDP for that footprint; as you have several platforms, Armalite, DPMS, DPMS-2 and Reed Knight doing his SR25 thing.
