222s, show yours

Remington Model 725, .222 manufactured in 1960. Remington built the 725 for about 4 years before going to the 700. About 1,475 were built in .222. This model has hand checkering, floor plate and a three position safety. Had the rifle since it was new. Shoots extremely well with H322 and Berger 52 gr. bullets. Plans were to use it in hunter class groundhog match competition at 100, 200 and 300 yards. Scope on it is a Leupold 24x which is the maximum magnification allo
I’ve always wanted one of the 725s! Beautful!

Howdy !

Cool rifle !

You said " plans were " to use the rifle for groundhog matches. What happened to " the plan " ?

A pre war M70 Hornet action, marksman stock, GR Douglas .222 barrel from 1956. Over 7,000 rounds by me, no telling how many from the ol man I bought it from. And it still shoots quality groups. I love this old rifle.

The Covid 19 screwed up my match schedule. Limited my match schedule to one range that only had unlimited class out to 400 yards which is beyond the .222 accuracy range to be competitive. I am 73 and hope to be able to shoot the .222 next spring in matches if we get Covid under control.

Howdy, again ! Thanx for the prompt response!

Yeh..... I understand your reasons for not being able to apply the .222 for short range competition.

Your basic plan sounds like a great one. Hope you get to pursue it, soon !

Here's another 722. Just snagged this with a want ad here. The trigger was already worked over. All I did was bed the lug and sand out the barrel channel some. It needs a period correct scope, but I was too tired of waiting anymore.

Let's hope I can really wring the most out of it. First group was promising considering the 30 degree temps and 15 mph winds. I could hardly feel my fingers by the time I got it sighted in. This was fired with unknown handloads with reformed LC brass and what is supposedly a 52 grain bthp.

Just to play a little longer I tried shooting out the demo shot in the corner. The first shot hangfired, and I didn't see an impact so I popped another down there. Turns out they snuggled up right next to one another.

Single shot action is on the way to Lee Gardner for blueprinting and a Brux barrel will be ordered for a 222 that will go into this old 40 X stock. Always wanted a 40X 222 so we will build one

Cool old stock. I’m sure you’ll be happy with the action and barrel when Lee is done with it!!

Really looking forward to it. I am sure that when I get everything up and running, I will be amazed at the accuracy. I like the old school look of the 40x. I will get the action back and then get all of the action, trigger guard, and scope rings black cerakoted to match, of coarse the barrel and lug will be stainless. I have a Leupold Vari X III in 6.5 x 20 30mm that Premier added big knobs to years ago, Jewel trigger. Should make a nice set up. Lee came highly recommended.
