Northern Idaho?

Yeah... but.....have you priced a good tractor, these days. My cousin just bought a nice John Deere. It was over $100,000!! Holy craminies!

What the heck did he buy? Must be some kind of tractor.

This thread is very disheartening. I grew up in Oregon on the Coast. Was hoping to move back when I retire in a couple of years. But Oregon has, well gone to hell with the Liberal Socialists. Very sad to see.

We moved from California to Washington for work and to escape the madness there. But sadly Washington is just as bad as California and Oregon. All three of these states have proven to cheat on the elections using those fixed counting machines donated by Hillary's foundation.

We had thought to move to Idaho, but in the last couple of elections, Boise has voted Blue not Red. Not that I have any desire to move to a city. But it isn't just in the city any more.

We looked at Texas, which in the cities has been invaded by the Liberal Socialists. There is still the country which to my understanding is mostly Red. But we worry that the heat may be more than we can handle.

We're running out of places to move to. So much for peaceful bliss in retirement.

Check out south Florida, west coast or central. East coast is way to busy with all of us old farts going there. If I was able I would of gone a couple years ago but it would have been Port St. Lucie or Stuart area only because that keeps me at least an hour away from the in laws further south.
Warm in the winter except for a few days and warmer in summer, along with high humidity but it still beats the two season north east.

We have looked at Florida, our concerns are the storms. Now, keep in mind that we only know what we see on the news or weather channel and we all know how accurate they are.

Give Arkansas a look, solid red except for the capital city of Little Rock. Beautiful country, lots of lakes. You can choose from mountains to the delta or like me live with the hills behind you and the flat land in front.... John

Almost all larger cities are blue, regardless of the state. Here is how Idaho did in 2020, and it doesn't get too much better than that nowadays. 40 years ago, Oregon was like Idaho is now. With vigilance, Idaho has a lot of red years left,

I live in Coeur D Alene, and yes we get some snow, buy a snow blower then it's no big deal. Deer and Elk in my yard all the time, and I'm only 1.5 miles from downtown. As far as shooting goes there are a couple good clubs locally for practice. Compition wise you have 600 yard in Spokane, 1000 yard Tri Cities 2.5 hrs away, and 1000 yard in Missoula, with an active BR group, 2.5 hours away. Missoula has open 1000 yard practice every Monday and Friday.
Good luck

The Post Falls/CDA area is nice, but as others have said the development is booming. I lived near Sandpoint when I was in grade school... I hear it's changed a lot since then with development and big price tags on property. I moved back to Lewiston 2 years ago.. it's still the same as when my parents moved me there in '92. Ssssssh, don't tell anyone.

In point of fact, not all of North Idaho gets much snow. Lewiston boasts the lowest elevation in the state, only 720 feet above sea level at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers. There is nearly the eastern extent of the Columbia Basin "Banana Belt". Lewiston is known as Idaho's "Seaport City" since the completion of the Lower Snake Dams project in 1974, bringing navigable slack water (and barge traffic) to Lewiston/Clarkston.

Want to see the effect of out-of-state urban influx on a rural state? Consider Nevada, which now is controlled by Democrats: Governor, super-majorities in both the State Senate and State Assembly, and every statewide office. In addition, both chambers of the legislature are majority female (the only such legislature in the country.)

Here is a map of the Nevada Assembly's 42 Districts: 16 Republican districts in red, 26 Democrat in blue. What, wait! Where are all those blue districts? Uh, reach for your magnifying glass and focus in on Reno and Las Vegas. Enjoy!

Hey PapaCharlie:
I bought a place outside Kerrville. We were going to do the Snowbird routine, but Covid stopped us from coming back to Delaware for the summer. I was also worried about the heat. The Texans loved to play with our heads because we’re Easterners! Tall tales abounded about how big the bugs got, how many rattlesnakes were around and how bad the heat was!
Let me tell ya the plain truth. It’s not half as bad as the East Coast. Here in Delaware, we get 100 degree days with high humidity. Your sweat just lays on your skin and doesn’t evaporate. If it goes to 100 during the day, it’s maybe down to 95 at night and still humid as hell! It’s miserable!
Texas Hill Country is different! In July,
I’m watching the morning weather report and they say it’s going to be 115 degrees today! Watch out! I walk outside with my coffee and it’s about 75 degrees with a soft breeze! Through the day, the temp slowly goes up until about 3-4 o’clock, when it finally hits 115. Yeah, it’s hot standing in the sun, but it’s a dry heat. Your sweat evaporates and cools you off a little. I realized why the Mexicans have “siesta time”. The sun does blaze! But here’s the nice part: around 6 or 7 o’clock, it’s back down below 80 with a nice little breeze again! It’s lovely!
Come on down for a visit!
You’ll see!

May just do that. The wife has a couple of cousins who live in the Fort Worth area.

I guess it depends what you’re used to I grew up in Palm city as a kid which is just west of Stuart across the St. Lucie River I left Port St. Lucie 17 years ago it was blowing up in 2004 it was the fastest growing city in the United States I’ve been back one or two times and don’t even recognize it it might as well be Miami

well you could decide to avoid the cities and move to a rural area

I’d suggest staying away from the big cities. Kerrville is a nice “little” town. The majority of folk are plain nice people. Driving down the road, people wave Hi at me. My wife asks “Who was that?” I don’t know, most of the time. They’re just friendly! Walking down town, most men tip their hat at the ladies and say “Good Morning”. They’ll hold the door open, smile, ask ya if ya need any help.........just a lot of nice folk! There’s this hardware store called Gibsons. They have any nut or bolt ya may need and they have a wall of guns at one end of the store, next to the fishing department! It’s a little slice of heaven!
