Bought a 1913 54 action and having accuracy problems. Doesn't seem to like any lapua ,which seems odd. I never shot any eley because my 64 loves Midas and figured this gun to be no different sooooo does anyone have any suggestions on what this gun might like? I know that some models like certain brands of ammo. Just thought I'd ask before I start buying. Thanks Buck

Good luck in today's market even finding ammo to try. I went through this exercise about 3 months ago with my 1413. First started with 2 boxes each of Lapua Center X, Lapua Midas + and Eley Tenex.. I found the CX shot best, so I found a source that had 8 different lot#'s available and bought a box of each.
From those 8 lot#'s I found that shot significantly better. I got lucky when I went back to buy more, the lot that shot the best was the only one still available, so I bought 1K rounds.

I recently picked up a 1913BR & it shoots any Midas I've put in it great. I admittedly am new to the rifle & don't know alot about it other than the previous owner was adamant that the barreled action be torqued to the Anschutz specs of 45 in. lbs.
I'd start by a good cleaning of the barrel & bolt if that's not been done & try it again. Then I'd try some Eley Match or Tenex.

I am primarily a center fire shooter that also likes the rim. I like the fact of having more control over my accuracy than the 22s but nonetheless I do like the rims. I've been through the testing process many times but there are fine gentlemen out there that are willing to throw me a bone sometimes. I am at the mercy of this new action and occasionally have to ask for help.Thanks Buck

I have 2 Match 54 rifles of 1973 vintage. They shoot CenterX and Midas well. BUT, they both shoot RWS R-50 better and with more consistency. If you can find some (very difficult right now) buy a box or two. You may like the performance. Beware, R-50 is in the same price range as Eley Tenex and Lapua Midas+. Part of the fun is the trigger time you get while testing.

I agree, that is how I started on this rimfire journey - trigger time. I'd shot my 1413 Super Match in the winter, indoors at 50' for years, but decided to try 50 yds. outside this summer, just to get more trigger time, cheaper than 243 Win/6.5 CM. WOW, what a humbling experience that has been. I haven't tried R50, but I will.

Benchrest is the acid test of accuracy. A rifle with "position shooting accuracy" will not necessarily do well at benchrest.
For example, top benchrest shooters often go through several barrels to find a "shooter".
Also, there are many 64s that will outshoot 54s (and vice-versa)...Tom

who says that a "position" rifle needs less "accuracy" then a "bench" gun..

First I want to thank everyone for the response to my thread. I did find a lot of midas that shows some promise. This 1913 seems to be much more finicky as to how it likes to be handled. It took me at least a year to learn how to shoot my 64. I don't know why I thought I could figure this gun out in one month. Lack of patients I guess. Thanks Buck

If you can find any sk pistol match (in a green box) or sk long range I would highly recommend trying. I bought a brick of the sk long range on friday. They were out of the pistol match.
They both shoot fantastic out of my $300.00 heavy barrel Savage Mark II. I put on a leupy vxII 6-18x40 this morning and sighted in for a squirrel hunt this coming week. 3 consecutive 5 shot groups were in the mid to high two’s.

I'm late to this thread. The OP doesn't say what stock he has with his 1913 barreled action. When used from the bench a stock for position shooting will be somewhat awkward. If the stock is an Anschutz BR50 stock then it should do well enough, but not so well that it will be competitive with custom BR rigs. Nevertheless, for an off-the-shelf factory-built rifle, the Anschutz BR 50 is about as good as it gets.
The observation made about 64 action Anschutz rifles outshooting 54 match rifles has its obvious limitations in that, while there may be some 64 rifles that do very well, the odds are in favor of the 54.
It bears repeating, especially for casual readers, that brand of ammo is less important for accuracy than lot of ammo. In other words, not all lots of the same ammo -- whether it's CX or M+ -- will shoot equally.
