The darndest thing is the Chairman Mao watch just keeps on ticking, 15 years later!

I have looked at the Breitling DLC, my only beef is I hate automatics, The twirling weight
drives me crazy. I didnt see any available with quartz movement. In my mind, I invented the idea. Who knew there were all of these companies doing it . Its mucho more than I thought but dang good looking!

Rolex currently is at $1750 for a non date silver only watch, and thats no battery. But you cant tell it from a brand new one when theyre done

This is my work watch.
When I converse with customers, eveneven though I have a blue work uniform on and are probably dirty from crawling around a boat, if I have this watch on, I am dressed up.

And no, it does NOT have a battery.

DLC Seiko. Milgauss for comparison. Poor quality cell phone pic, color's a bit off.

I got to thinking about that Seiko. I'm sure it's a PVD coating but maybe it's not technically DLC. So I went to my watch drawer to check the documentation. The second Seiko box I took out felt heavy, and inside it I found a brand new Seiko chronograph I didn't even know I had!

I immediatly went to the gun safe to see if a similar situation would occor.

No luck there.

I read a fascinating article a few years ago about the watchmaking school Rolex runs. They recruit young men and women who must pass a series of excruciating aptitude tests, with relatively few qualifying for the program. The inductees then spend years becoming certified watchmakers through a rigorous training and qualification process. Apparently there's a shortage of people qualified to maintain and repair these wonderful exotic timepieces, and, as with commercial pilots, many experienced watchmakers are retiring or dying with too few coming along behind them.
