Hodgdon data site powder sales

sbhopper states that “Shipping seems pretty steep”. I suggest that $10.oo to ship 8# of anything is below what you might pay at the local post office.

$20.oo for a hazmat, who charges less?

MidwayUsa charges $12 HazMat fee, Midsouth Shooters Supply charged $16 HazMat fee when I ordered some powder there earlier this year.

Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's charge zero HazMat or shipping costs when you select the free ship-to-store option with online orders, even if they use FedEx Ground to ship my orders to my designated store. It's all internal to their operation. That's how I've purchased the majority of my primers and some powders this year. No need to aggregate HazMat materials into a single order this way. I made two orders for primers this week when I caught them available using the free ship-to-store option. So, their HazMat fees can be as low as $0 every day every such order using the free ship-to-store option.

If your online order is over $50 and you choose to ship to an address instead of using the free ship-to-store you get free shipping (but HazMat materials remain FedEx Ground instead of upgraded to FedEx 2 Day shipping) plus a HazMat fee of $20 applies.

If your online order is less than $50 and choose ship to an address then you pay for FedEx Ground shipping plus a $20 HazMat fee.

Why is Hodgdon selling direct all of a sudden? First they buy up all the other companies, now they are going retail? How soon till they stop selling through distributers and local gunshops at all?

Then there will be only one outlet to close down when someone decides that "We the People" don't need to be reloading anymore.

I misread it. I thought the 30 was before hazmat.

Suspect they’re just participating in direct sales made possible by online shopping. Unfortunately, it will have a negative impact on their “brick and mortar” distribution network that forum members often support. It’s always been possible to shut down a few companies to strangle a hand loader’s component supply line. But compared to factory loaded ammo, I doubt we assemble much in terms of total round count...

Cut out the middlemen (wholesaler and retailer) equals more profit. If it works, they make more money. If it doesn't, they will go back to the old way. Nothing I have seen in this thread indicates they are not selling to middlemen).

All this talk makes me glad I filled my barn with stuff while the sun was shining!

We stock most of the N100 series powder. We're currently out of N140 and getting low on N135. We don't advertise it much because we can't ship it. Normally we deliver a lot of it to matches we attend, but the Covid Summer put a damper on that. A lot of folks stop by and pick it up if they're travelling I-70 or I-135, especially if they're getting some for their buddies! Price for 8# of the N100s is $200! We never gouge when the demand is high!
