There have been 28 million new guns purchased so far this year. We all know that everyone making a gun purchase buys ammo. Gun dealers are selling ammo but limiting it to one box per sale, because it is in such short supply.
This is means that the ammo manufactures are buying up powder, bullets and primers to satisfy demand for these gun buyers.
Manufactures know that sales run in cycles, depending on the political situation. They can't build new lines to satisfy these extra demands, because when the situation changes, it will sit idle and be a waste of investment funds.
When the election is over, depending upon the outcome, the supply will either be available or remain as it is right now. Who controls the Senate will be the determining factor.
Just my opinion, based on past experience.
And don't forget people are hoarding! Most people hoard out of fear, some out to make a profit. If everyone only bought to satisfy their requirements, there wouldn't be the shortages there are now. Stop & think about how many primers per day each plant is producing. It is the same situation as was the great .22 shortage. Hoarding, plain & simple.
lol. @LA50SHOOTER pegged it.And don't forget people are hoarding!
No, I have sufficient primers for my needs. I haven't bought any primers in months. Like Liberty Mutual says, "Only buy what you need." Need being the key word.Bill, Need primers ???
Hi, my name is Pat and I guess I'm a hoarder. I've been buying primers, powder, bullets and brass for the last 10 years when prices were reasonable. I knew that there were ALWAYS going to be shortages for many reasons so I decided to follow the motto of the Boy Scouts...BE PREPARED!
Right. But, given there are times when supply dries up, what do you do?No, I have sufficient primers for my needs. I haven't bought any primers in months. Like Liberty Mutual says, "Only buy what you need." Need being the key word.
I'm just a recreational paper puncher. If everything becomes unobtainium, then my custom rifles becomes boat anchors. At that point (and I really don't see that if Trump is reelected) reloading for the average shooter will go the way of the Do Do bird.Right. But, given there are times when supply dries up, what do you do?
As a match competitor, I try to maintain enough supply to last through the expected length of a shortage. From experience, this could be two years => I try to maintain a 2 1/2 year inventory to ensure I can continue to practice and compete.I'm just a recreational paper puncher. My question for all the match shooters both pistol & rifle, what do they do?
Here's a thought; How about someone ie, the Forum Boss write a letter to CCI and Federal for primers and the powder manufacturers and find out what their production capabilities are in light of the shortages. This forum alone has several thousand members and this alone I'm sure counts for a large share of the market. That way we as a shooting group know for sure what the status is of the reloading industry. I would imagine if CCI was running 24/7 (which they probably aren't) there wouldn't be any shortages. Just my 2 cents.
Why would any manufacturer not run at full capacity if they can sell all their output? Here's a thought; How about someone ie, the Forum Boss write a letter to CCI and Federal for primers and the powder manufacturers and find out what their production capabilities are in light of the shortages.
