Re crowning a slug barrel , tuner , bed action

Not sure if this is the right place to ask about shotguns , Slug barrels in general , has anyone re crowned a shotgun slug barrel , installed a tuner , and bedded the action , i just purchased one of Savages 20 gauge bolt action slug guns , They say they shoot great right from the box , just wondering if doing any of the above will make them shoot better yet.

Bedding can help, but my experience with the Savage slug guns is that they shoot very well right out of the box. Accuracy is not the issue, most of the complaints I hear are regarding the cheap, cheesy ridiculous magazine that either cracks up and wont feed or falls out of the gun. I get Savage is a "cost effective" gun company, but come on Savage, the magazine actually working is kind of important. They missed the boat on the A-17 and A-22 also.
I have cut extended forcing cones in several rifled slug barrels and seen some accuracy improvements too. Much of the accuracy you can get out of any slug gun depends a lot on the ammo you shoot. Many people change the stock too. Most popular around these parts is the Boyd's.

Edit: sorry, I forgot about the crowning question...if it needs the crown cut then it has to be done. If it does not then I wouldn't say don't, but do not expect some stellar improvement. Either you need the crown corrected or you don't.

Thanks for the information , i may put the barrel in the lath and check it , think i will do a little lapping also and bed the action , not really planning on much hunting , just want to see if i can get it to shoot better , hope some one will make a better mag , these seem like a real popular gun for the price .

It is a shame because they really are a fantastic slug gun, but for that stupid magazine. Might want to check and see if Timney makes a trigger too.
If you like to play around with accuracy and slugs I suggest you have a look at "Slugs-R-Us" {google it} in Pa. Very nice guy and he sells a reloading kit to make your own. They are called Hammerheads and he also sells a mold to cast your own. The design is just like the old discontinued Buck Hammers that Remington used to sell. They are very accurate and you can load them for your specific gun. I have an 870 with a Hastings barrel that will put 5 Hammerheads in a 3" circle at 100 yards.
Looking at the current price of good name brand sabot slugs makes it all the more fun to cast and load your own. It also makes it cost effective enough to do plenty of experimenting.

Will have a look for sure , I have all the equipment , make my own down rigger weights so all i would need is the slug mold.
