Lapua brass quality control issues??

Anything shipped is at the mercy of who delivers it to you, USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.

Who you buy from should package the item as if it will be dropped kicked, dropped from an extreme height, and stomped on by an Elephant.

This is where the plastic case Peterson uses to ship their cases in will protect the cases. With the exception of being stomped on by an Elephant.

Midway shipped 200 match bullets to me in a plastic bag. The bag made the trip but some of the bullets did not. Never ordered from them again.
Exact same thing for me. Ordered the Tubb final finish bullets. First order showed up with the plastic box busted all to hell and the bullets mixed. Sent it back and they immediately shipped a new one.

New one arrives in worse shape than that of the first shipment. Sent it back and got a refund and have not ordered a single item from them since. That was 7 years ago.

I have had enough issues with Midways shipping that I will not order bullets or brass from them ever.
They sub par package everything. It always looks like 1 piece of ballast and everything free floating in the box,
with 2 pices foam or pop corn in a oversize box. ...wow think u hit a nerve.:mad:

I just remembered something I saw today. I was at the Mesa, Az UPS district hub to send something. The UPS trucks were pouring out of the driveway. One of the trucks had forgot to close his rear door. Packages were literally flying out of the back of the truck! It is doubtful that it did those packages and what they contained any good!

Ben, I've seen that also, being a 35 year UPS (retired driver) It's funny at the time, watching all the pkgs falling out, as your trying to catch up to the idiot driving down the road
to tell him he forgot to close his door.
That brass wasn't damaged just thru shipping.
You couldn't shake the box hard enough to do that much damage.
You will get a few dinged up once in a while.
See how some of the cases have flat spots on the necks.
Someone purposely did that.

It concerns me that the subject & first call suggests it was a Lapua issue, whereas the fact that the Lapua seals on the box were broken obviously points to a supplier or retailer.

I trained my pet chimp CocoPuff to load F-TR ammo for me. He caught on very quickly and has now totally mastered the reloading process. Below is a sample of some of CocoPuff's early work, of which your brass pictures somewhat remind me. The big difference is that I CHOOSE to let CocoPuff reload my ammo ;). You didn't choose to receive brass like that. That is completely unacceptable and I hope Midway makes it right.

I got this 6.5X47 Lapua brass in the mail today. Has anyone had this problem? I find this to be intolerable at the price point of over a dollar per piece.

Yes sir I have!.. ordered two boxes of 7-08 Lapua brass from Bruno’s. Bruno’s have always been good to work with and probably would have took care of me had I complained but they were sealed boxes and I’m sure it was no fault of Bruno’s or ups. I believe they were done at Lapua. I worked for CCI/Speer and this can happen coming off the machines the multiple washings annealing but QC usually catches them and there scrapped. I took pictures of first box that wasn’t near as bad as yours second box was similar to yours. Several years ago I got a bad batch of 6.5x284 from Lapua but as a general rule there pretty good. I just received 2 boxes of 6 Creedmoor from Bruno’s the other day and it’s the most consistent in weight and uniformity I’ve ever bought. However yours is so bad I would be complaining to Midway that is totally unacceptable.
Wayne.

My take on it is this.

At present with the shortages and delays due to whatever their causes, suppliers are digging through their back stock and filling orders on the hope that the receiver will swallow it, and if the buyer kicks up .... just move it down the line to the next Smuck

Here is a link to some .303 Brit i bought the other day and when I opened the box it looked like this.

The excuse being "its been in a bunker for 50 years"... but they were still selling it for $1.34 a round.

I’ve purchased a lot of Lapua 6.5x47L brass and was astonished by the lack of neck inside diameter consistency. One might think a prominent industry leader would use optical non-contact measurement methods to screen/sort/cull nonconformities. This is established technology these days and not that expensive to implement. Very disappointing, and shows lack of meeting customer expectations.

How bout a lil humor?
Getting pissed ain't gonna help.
A light chamfer before seating will help with seating force.

Those look like my brass after neck sizing.
I might need some lessons from Coco!

Don't forget to check the flash holes for uniformity!

Sorry about the condition of your new brass, hopefully it gets resolved.

I agree with this. I have had so much trouble finding components for this rifle I was just so frustrated. I have probably ordered from Midway for the last time. You can’t even contact someone. They blame it on being so busy but everyone is busy. I hate dealing with problems like this through email.

Plans were to shoot this rifle on Sunday. I am going to load the ones that I know will be fine and try to fix the others. If I take a hit that’s my choice but I am pretty disappointed in this experience.

After calming down, and thanks to some great advice here, I agree it’s definitely subpar shipping preparation.

Is there a way to change my post subject? Pretty inexperienced at forums

A little humor is always helpful.

Feelings were pretty raw when I first posted.

Box was not sealed. I agree that its a shipping issue not manufacturing issue. I was venting lol. Thanks for the advice guys.

Several the mouths are torn.

So here's what I believe you got, and I say this because I've seen it before. SOMEone bought a large quantity of brass, went through them sorting out the dented cases, put all those back in a box and returned it. That's why it was opened.

If we weren't in a hoarding frenzy where components were scarce, I'd return it. If you can't get more, best option is to smooth out the necks and use them, providing there aren't more defects.

That’s the plan. I have waited as long as I plan to. This rifle will go bang Sunday.

Important update. Already received response from Lapua. They are sending me replacements for the ones I feel are too bad to use. All companies should take note. No BS about being overwhelmed due to panic buying. Give us your address and they will be on the way!! Great save from Lapua. Your move midway!!!
