Who’s knowledgeable on redfield sight bases?

A standard rear base to fit a Rem 700 or Win Mod 70 would be a W-490. Then they also made higher bases like 590 and 670.

Does anyone know if they ever made a rear receiver base shorter than .490?

If so what were the heights/part numbers?

shorter in what respect?

I should clarify - I have several bases of varying heights, but they all use the standard hole spacing.

Have you looked at Lipski bases? I believe Creedmore Sports still sells them - they are modular, so you can adjust the height of the rear mounting holes.

shorter height wise. Like maybe a W-390 or similar if something like that exists.
Something that would bring the sight lower.
What do you have?

I need the side mount that screws in to the side of the receiver. The Lipski attachment is on the rail.

I have such a short sight base, height is un-marked on it?? But, it's OAL measured height is .870. Probably does not make any difference anyway, it's mounted on an original Winchester Model 70 - .308 Match Rifle (long action, clip-slot) with Redfield International Sights, and you'd have to buy the complete rifle just to get the sight base.

The standard size W-490 size that I have already has height slightly less than that already, Thanks though

in your 1st post you say you need a standard base which i took to mean a base that fits on top of receiver, but in post 4 you say you need a side mount. I ve got alot of these bases but dont have the part #s memorized.
anyway what is it you need?

The base on the left is a ‘tall’ .670 (meaning the height between top row of screw holes and the bottom row of screw holes CTC is .670), the base in the middle is a ‘standard’ .490 size. What I am looking for is a shorter base than the ‘standard’ size. The base for the Redfield 75 sight has the top and bottom rows on the same line so would technically be a .000 but that base also takes smaller sight mounting screws than normal. What I am looking for is something sized similar to the right side where the distance in the top and bottom rows is around .400... I just don’t know if Redfield ever made one smaller than .490 without going all the way down to the inline 75 sight base.

Logan,
Of all the bases I measured and researched when first starting making sights, I never saw one that short. Doesn't mean they don,t exist
The one guy I know who would know more is Earl Leibetreau.

thanks for the explanation. I cant be of any help to you. Sorry but i sure hope you find what youre looking for. I could ask more dumb questions but i wont waste youre time with that, ill just say if i really needed something like that , Id just make it. In fact it looks like you could take a .670 and modify it. Dont know that for a fact of coarse. mabie you could get a local shop to help you.

Have you been to Champions Choice web site? They stock a fairly wide variety of side mount bases.

From older Small Bore Rifles there was a Base Mount Straight Across with the Mounting Hoses to the Receiver next to the Sight Mounting Holes !

I may have one at Home ? On the Road now .

@logandiana - the one guy I was going to recommend that you contact, has answered.

We have a an older guy who comes to gun shows, his name is Ken Bean from York, PA.

He specialized in older and obscure sight bases for various generations of shooting disciplines. You can search his contact info on the 'net. He might have one laying around. The only other option I could think of would be to use a taller front sight base, to negate the need for the shorter rear.

Look at the sight base for the Barnard 'S' action. It appears from the picture on the website it is "0" height. It will (should) fit a Rem700/Win70. I have an RW-590 on a Barnard 'S'.
